Content is king. To survive in the blogosphere, you’ve got to master the art of delivering killer content. There’s no new information out there – it’s always been out there. The ones who succeed are the ones who can collect what’s out there, package the information and deliver it – with their own unique spin on it.
This is what Shoemoney (one of the most successful bloggers out there) said when I interviewed him a while back for my book:
The key way for anyone who’s looking to write an educational kind of blog is that you have to find different ways to approach old subjects, because the information is always been out there. You just have to find a way to present it to people in a way that they’ve never heard it, or in a way they can now comprehend and understand it.
-Jeremy Schoemaker (aka Shoemoney)
Here are five quick tips:
1. Write In A Brief & Concise Manner
Keep it simple stupid. Use small words that people will actually understand – you’re not here to impress your English teacher, you’re here to get your information across. If possible, use analogies to help people understand things in a better manner and put things in perspective. Remember, it’s about the reader.
2. Tackle The Subject From A Different Angle
Approach your topic from a different perspective. So rather than writing about, “10 Ways To Maintain A Positive Mindset” you could change that to, “10 Steps To Think Like A Loser”. Taking the same topic and using the same content, you’ve now created yourself a totally new and unique blog post.
3. Tell Stories
People love stories. We all want to be moved, transported and motivated by inspirational stories. It helps spark the imagination of the reader and draw their attention – in a noisy world where our attention-span is getting smaller and smaller.
Use real-life anecdotes and case studies and inject those with your personality. That’s the key to connecting with your readers on an emotional level. A great book that I recommend is All Marketers Are Liars: The Power of Telling Authentic Stories in a Low-Trust World by Seth Godin.
4. Engage With Your Audience
It’s all about the reader – so engage with them. You can ask questions and turn your blog into a conversation. Reply to comments and follow their links to their blogs in return. That way you’ll be able to connect with your community and know exactly what they want from you. Another way is to write something controversial and spark a debate across the entire blogosphere. That will definitely create huge buzz for your content, your blog and yourself. It’s that connection with your reader that makes people read your stuff.
5. Write From Your Passion
It’s only when you write from your passion, your heart, that you’ll get your enthusasim and energy across. People don’t want to read boring blogs, they want to read interesting blogs.
Do what you love and the success will follow.

I am here to learn!
Anyway, I too believe that content is the single most important thing on a blog closely followed by the need to keep it simple.

Number 5 is especially true.. write with passion, straight from your heart. If you’re blogging just for the money, you’ll give up in a few months.

I believe that shoemoney is trying to say that you should write it from your own experience. This is a good way to engage it with your audience.

I agree with Iri.
I’ve always thought that I wrote informative articles, but recently changed my style with the help of some very basic templates.
Now my information is brief and concise and USABLE which is what most of us are after I think. I’m thrilled with the improvement and far more prolific as well.
Great list. I’ll be keeping all of those points in mind!

True, content is king, passion is very important if we don’t have any passion in our articles, people will feel the “boreness”.

I agree with many points mentioned here. If you go surfing on the Internet you would realize that most of the things found on a website or blog can be found elsewhere too as there is so much repeated material. I think the key is to present them in a different style or perspective that appeals to your readers. Offering your own opinion, your personal experiences makes a big difference.
