This post was guest blogged by Thomas Sinfield of ThomasSinfield.com, a blog about blogging, and making money from it!
I spend a lot of time visiting new blogs, revisiting my regular blogs, and commenting my favourite blogs – I’m sure you do the same!
What is it that makes our favourite blogs so good and why is it that we sometimes just visit a new blog once and then never return? If you can work this out then you have found an easy way to improve your blog.
So What Do You look For When Visiting Blogs?
Every blog that you visit, whether it be in your niche or not, you should be asking yourself the following initial questions:
* What do/don’t I like about this blog?
* What makes me want to stay/leave this blog?
* Is this blog providing me with any form of value? (Unique information, entertainment, etc)
If the blog shows its RSS feed count, ask yourself the following questions:
* Where is there RSS feed button located?
* How big and how visible is it?
* Is it located above the fold?
* Do they ask you to subscribe after each post?
When you start becoming aware of what does and doesn’t make blogs successful, you are able to use this knowledge to benefit your own blog.
Cheers Thomas for the guest post. Some decent tips there, aye? Off to fail Islamic Culture, enjoy

I think content is king (as if you haven’t heard that a thousand times!).
” * Is this blog providing me with any form of value? (Unique information, entertainment, etc) ”
I think that is the most important point!

A good question would be : Is there so many advert that it makes me want to bang my head against a concrete wall?
And it happens often to me >_>

I look for the content, and to see if it entertaining or not to keep me drawn in the post.

I think knowing the standpoint of a blog is also pretty important, is the author talking about marketing, SEO, design or anything else? I generally get turned off when the first post I see is something like “What is the nofollow tag?” – It’s pretty obvious and you could just link to one of the other million articles about it.
If they write unique articles from a unique standpoint the blog is much more enjoyable IMO.

For me.. the content, and the friendly commentators (TUK eh..??
) make up for a great blog..
However, good and fun content, along with something valuable is what I look for in a blog
