Community driven websites are king.
Why? For the owner, if it’s promoted well enough, his/her users will do all the work – creating content, interacting with others, moderating the community and even promoting the website. For the users, it’s a place to hang around, enjoy the benefits of a (x user large) community and promote themselves. Win – win.
With that, I bring you Bloggers Base.
Bloggers Base describes itself as “a content discovery platform for bloggers and readers alike that is bringing the concept of quality over quantity to the Web“. Basically, it’s a blogger cross version of Digg and Facebook, with the added bonus of you being able to earn some money out of the whole thing.
You submit your content, people vote it up (or down) and you earn money if you’re chosen as the top blog. Of course, the money isn’t the important thing here – the site is growing fast, and an indirect benefit of the cash rewards is that people will be looking at it more in depth – meaning that if you do hit the front page, you’ll see a decent amount of exposure.
As the site is new, it’s easier to hit the front page than it is for sites like Digg, Delicious etc – sure, the exposure may be less, but these things often have ripple effects and at the very least you’re getting new eyeballs to YOUR content.
Signing up is free, of course, as any community driven website should be – once you’re signed up you can start submitting your posts (choose your best to have the greatest chance of doing well). You can even setup RSS feeds, so that your blog content is automatically turned into drafts – you only select the stuff you feel should be pimped on the front page.
How are posts selected for the front page?
The success of your posts depends on others – the more people that like it and vote it up, the more likely you are to hit the front page (and earn a cash prize).
Luckily, Bloggers Base has an easy way to invite people – you can invite friends by email, or even easier by using accounts on social networks like Facebook or other sites like Twitter. You promoting your content can generate a burst of publicity, and cash (you’ll see why below).
The main way you can make money on Bloggers Base.
Although you do get paid for hitting the front page, at the moment it isn’t that much ($40, which is better than nothing but not exactly an amount you’d plan to achieve).
The real money in Bloggers Base is by referring other people.
For each user you refer, you get 100% of their earnings for the first ten times they win.
You probably know a few half decent bloggers. A lot of them will not be signed up to Bloggers Base, simply because it’s so new.
If you invite them, and they sign up and hit it large… you can earn a shitload of money.
As each winner gets $40 (so do you), say you refer Big Blogger A. Big Blogger A has a following of 10,000 users, and those users love his content so much they publicize the crap out of everything he puts out.
Big Blogger A hits the front page ten times, he and you bank $400.
You get the idea. At the moment, there are a few bloggers that aren’t signed up to the program… have a try, see if you like it and if you do, politely pitch them the benefits. It never hurts
You can earn a maximum of $400 per user. Of course, this won’t be easy – the users need to have content good enough to hit the front page. If they do though, hitting it is definitely possible and so is getting a decent payoff.
The good thing about Bloggers Base is that they pay by Paypal (none of this cheque rubbish) whenever your balance exceeds $20. They pay monthly.
By looking at the homepage, the main thing on the site seems to be tech related stuff (user susan is doing quite well for herself, having four of the entries currently on the homepage) so any of you that run tech blogs… have a go, you should do well. Tech isn’t the only thing though – there’s also a bit of stuff about entertainment, lifestyle and world opinions.
At the moment there doesn’t seem to be much content about marketing related stuff but as more users find out about the network (through these types of paid reviews) interest will surely increase.
It’s a new site, but there is potential – check it out, you could have some fun.
If you have questions or need something clarified, have a look at the FAQ… and check out the Quick Tour to find out more about how to use the site.
What do YOU think?

Sounds like an interesting concept, being paid by social media is a new world that hasn’t been touched before. I guess this won’t last too long though as there will be plenty of people trying to game the system.

What an interesting idea! I doubt if this idea will work well though.
At least it should grow quickly!
Thanks,

This sounds like an interesting concept. I’ve got a bunch of posts on my blog and I’m interested in trying to put them on to see if I can make some money on it. It’s not a huge amount of cash but if it provides links back to your site and gets you additional traffic, it will more than pay off.

Also – can you only submit new posts? Or can you submit hit posts from a few months ago? Both would work, but if you can lend them your archives that gives you a better chance.

I’m interested in the answer to Nathaniel’s question as well. If I can resubmit content, then there’s nothing to lose here. However, if I have to write new posts, this might take a bigger investment.

Their homepage says “submit any old post” so I presume you can use past posts.
Ultimately it’s how you promote it, not how good the post is. Remember that crap marketed well sells better than brilliant content marketed crap.
As it’s new, it’s easier to promote your stuff than say it would be on other, more established sites (digg etc)

This makes it really lucrative then. If it doesn’t hurt you at all to submit it, you can really try and pitch anything you’ve done for a potential kick back and added traffic.

I tend to be attracted to these “pay to post” offers even if the rewards aren’t all that great. Most likely because I’m one of those people that likes to make $$$ but not like talking about making $$$. Hopefully my technical savvy would be more helpful over there.

I think it is like get paid to “digg”however since writer not to necessarily to have there own domain or hosting ,I just doubt the writer of blogger base can become superblog like Problogger.at top.I think this blogger base is another competitor of Squidoo.or associated content, with there “unique platform dubbed dig”for blogger however I believe it will be so great to connect to our existence blog to make “Link back into”

This is an interesting concept, although I don’t know how this business model of paying bloggers to hit the front page can stand up. They’ll have to continue to get great (and in my opinion referencable) content to continue attracting visitors over the long run and to keep making those payouts. Paying 100% of your referrals earnings is nice too, I just dont see how it can last.

That’s a good point. This seems like the start up companies approach to most problems. Throw money at it, THEN worry about how you’ll make it back. It will be tough for them to sustain a strong user base to make the money they’re paying out.

I’ve managed to win a few competitions. However, there is a LOT of drama and a LOT of behind the scenes work to vote certain bloggers down. One night I watched myself go from 1st to 3rd in 2 hours…in the middle of the night. I joined to get my blog exposure and it has done that. My posts used to receive over 500 hits, now I’m lucky to receive 100 hits. Many of my “friends” on bloggerbase have left. Lots of great posts to read, though.
