It’s not often I do this but it’s not often I have the time to find new blogs. Although I’ve been involved in some way in blogging in this niche for the best part of 2-3 years (despite taking a break from last April to January) I rarely come across top notch, high quality blogs that give you solid information.

When I do, I try to share them with others. Note Grizz, Trent Brownrigg and so on. Here’s another one.

Viperchill is a viral marketing blog which you should definitely check out. I stumbled across it through PluginID, the old blog of the site owner, and funnily enough despite the size of both (over 10,000 subscribers combined) I’d never heard of them before.

I’ve browsed through ViperChill, and although I don’t have the time to read all the posts the ones I did all had something of value to them. Information on internet marketing, making money online, driving traffic or whatnot – all useful if you’re trying to build an online business.

Here’s some of the posts I liked best:

How I Wrote A $30,000 eBook And How You Can Too

Guest Blogging: The Ultimate Guide

How I Really Built A Blog With 6,500 Subscribers

How To Really Build Backlinks and Dominate Google

Although this isn’t a review, more a plug, it wasn’t paid for – in fact, like me 5-6 days ago, Glen has no idea I exist

The site has no ads, no recommendations for affiliate programs, just a very hard to find $37 eBook called Cloud Living. Which I haven’t read, so can’t recommend it… but if it’s anything like the rest of the site it’ll be awesome.

Anyways, another blog to add to your reader – check it out when you have the time. The posts are massive so it might be difficult to go through them (there’re double the size of the in depth ones on here so you might struggle) but take your time, it’ll be worth it. Enjoy!

Around a month ago I did a post detailing how to make money with adsense – make sure you check it out if you haven’t already.

Now a few people asked me questions about adsense and setting up niche websites (the main business of my internet marketing company in Bangalore, India) and the WSO guide wasn’t doing so well in terms of conversions (I feel it was too niche) so I decided to compile all the information I knew about Adsense through experience / learning from reading others and put it into one free guide for you guys.

I was originally waiting for the theme to be coded before I launched this but I’m waiting on the mascot so you guys can ‘proof’ it for me… let me know how you like it, whether it could be improved and so on. It’s a 50+ page report containing a LOT of information and should give you something of use.

If you’re already subscribed (through Aweber), check your inbox as there will be an email with the report. If you haven’t, you can get it by subscribing below:

I mentioned I was getting a new design a few days ago, as one of the things I was doing to boost subscriber count… the design is shown below.

What do you guys think?

It’s clean, Web 2.0 ish, was done by a friend. The blank space at the top is room for a mascot – the little guy you see currently is getting redrawn.

More about who did it and the process when it goes live, but would love to hear your opinions.

Some updates…

If you squint (or click through to make the image full size) you’ll notice the topic of the 55+ page free report. I can promise you that it’s insanely high quality and i’ll be adding to it as we go on – hopefully it’ll become the ultimate resource about that topic. A couple people have looked at it / proofread for me and they liked it, but we’ll see what you guys think when it’s out (if you want to help proofread and get an early sneak peek, hit me up on MSN/Skype).

Quality matters less than I think

Although I don’t mind putting out 400 word generic articles on my niche sites to build backlinks, the silly thing I’ve done is that I have a way too high expectation of what quality should be, especially on this blog.

For example, although I think “how to install a wordpress theme” might be useless information for me to put out, a lot of people need to know stuff like that. Or, an article on how to make money writing articles – most of you would think that’s way too basic but there are people out there that would kill for that kind of information.

So I’m going to be putting out a lot more information on here, generic, but helpful stuff. For example stuff like 9 ways for teens to make money, 10 things you should do to get more blog comments etc. Both a mix for SEO and for social traffic from places like Digg, Stumble Upon etc.

The bonus for you guys is that I’ve disabled blog broadcast and will only use it to send out the elite articles, so if you subscribe to the Aweber list you’ll be getting only the top stuff (and some other info that won’t even be displayed on this blog). I’ll be pre launching the free report through Aweber, so if you’re signed up you’ll automatically get it.

Monetization

Unfortunately, I’m a bit of a weak person when it comes to promoting in this niche. I can sell a $10 report like the best of them… however I didn’t do it enough when I previously owned this blog.

My problem is that on this blog I interacted with people, and when I did that they became friends. I find it almost impossible to ’sell’ to friends, even if the information is useful – I’d rather spend an hour helping someone out than telling them to go buy a $47 product.

However, although I still love you guys I’m going to try and get over this irrational fear – I’ll be recommending stuff on here from time to time, although as always I maintain that a) you don’t need anything I recommend b) I won’t promote stuff too often and c) I won’t promote shite products.

This blog has a Marketing Team

As I mentioned, I’m currently in India training my employees – one of their tasks is to promote this blog. I’m teaching them about things like article marketing, blog commenting and forums… now you may notice a couple comments on your own blogs from them.

They’re still getting the hang of everything, including comment etiquette etc – they are real people, they are taught to try and add value, and they are passionate about marketing. So if you notice a comment on your blog that doesn’t sound like me… it’s from one of them and hopefully it’ll add to the discussion on your website.

Make Money Dynamo

A couple people have asked me about MMD – I’ve moved all posts to this site, although I didn’t do 301 redirects or anything too technical, just stuck up a maintenance page with a link to this blog.

MMD still has 200~ subscribers and I’ll be getting my employees to share their experiences on it, what they’re learning in internet marketing and so on in the next week or so. I’ll introduce them on this blog as well – but just wanted to let everyone know what was up.

Of course, they’ll be promoting that, this as well as a few niche websites so that’s quite a bit of work, but I see a lot of potential in all this.

Link Juice And Stuff

Due to the requests of a few spammers (or blogging friends ) I’ve decided to add dofollow and KeywordLuv to this blog (along with the already existing CommentLuv). Now I’ve added another plugin called Lucia’s Linky Love (I think) which makes comments dofollow only after 7 of them – this prevents people coming by, dropping a link and never coming back. CommentLuv is nofollow, your anchor text comment keyword will be dofollow after you’ve made 7 total (it shows your number I think although I’m not sure what it bases it on, either email/name/URL – any one of those I’m guessing ).

That’s it for now. If you’ve got any suggestions (re the theme, the blog itself or anything else), feel free to share em. I’m pretty proud that I managed to keep this post under 1,000 words, although it was a close ish one.

It’s been so long I’ve almost forgotten how to start a blog post. I just about remember, though.

Some of you will remember me as the person who created this blog in October 2007. I recently was informed that Stanley was looking to sell this blog (again) since he had university issues and I thought… why not have a go.

Although I’ve been away from blogging seriously for a while now, and been involved with a tonne of other stuff (a long vacation being one of them, along with offline marketing, seminars and moving to India to start my own company – more on that later) I’ve always felt selling this site for the amount I did was a mistake. And now that mistake has a chance to be rectified.

Firstly, the main thing which I’m sure anyone that reads this post is interested in – price. I paid just over $3,000 USD for this blog, which is the same price I sold it for. Some of you may feel that was a huge waste of money, others may feel it was a bargain. In my point of view when I sold it around April 2009, it had similar statistics to this one – traffic has slightly increased, comments on posts etc are pretty much the same, and although earnings were next to nothing, the subscriber count has roughly doubled… for me, that’s a reasonable deal.

Kind of like having someone else who’s experienced maintain your blog for almost a year at no cost.

Anyways, let me know whether you think the decision to buy the blog was a good one below…

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

I think I was the only person interested in the price of $3k, so that’s food for thought. But this is the site I created, and I do see the potential in it considering I probably did nothing to promote / monetize in the last 6-8 months I was running it, I think I could make it bigger than before.

I’ve merged the website I had posted on sporadically with a partner (Make Money Dynamo) to this one, so if you’re confused seeing this in your email box you now know why you are. Hope you’ll stick around

With the MMD subscribers added on this blog now has almost 3,000 subscribers, which is pretty sweet. I’m aiming to take that to 10,000 before the year is up.

To all the old readers of this blog that have stuck around till now, howdy and I hope all of you still remember me. To those that have found this site after that, welcome and I hope you’ll give me a chance to wow you.

Of course I have ideas of what I’m going to do with this blog, the type of content I’m going to put out… however I’m always open for any suggestions. You can contact me through any of the below mediums:

MSN: JPereira.Owns@gmail.com

Skype: leonetworks

Yahoo: jasonpereira34

Email: use the contact form

Phone: +919036133170

I’m still working on things in the background so there may be some screwups on here in the next few days… one of the things I’m looking at is finding a good theme designer as this theme doesn’t quite look right. I also have a few (around 20) employee interviews over the next few days for my offline company – I’ll explain about that in a post in the next few days.

I feel that blogs have so much potential as a medium, both in terms of boosting brand reputation, marketing things online, making big connections in the form of joint ventures and of course to make more money online. I think I’ll stick to what I did when I was running this blog – a mix of entrepreneurship / make money online posts, and maybe some interviews as they seem to be pretty popular on here. Again, all suggestions welcome.

Welcome to the blog whether you know me or not and I hope I can give you the type of content that’ll keep you coming back again and again. For starters, check out the report in the sidebar – It’s a product about how to make money through Warrior Special Offers, around 30 pages of solid content that explain what they are and what you need to do to start making money with them.

Hope all of you are doing well.

Some of you will know that I did a seminar on internet marketing in July – it was attended by around 30-45 people and was a pretty good night. As India is still new to the whole internet marketing thing, I didn’t get any sponsors so had to fund the thing myself – around $500 usd for a hall booked for 50 people (with a killer dinner buffet included).

Now some of you may think – why book a hall and spend $500 of your own money for something that hasn’t directly made me any money?

I used to think offline meetups were a waste of time, I mean I’ve got Skype, I’ve got MSN/Yahoo/GTalk, so if you can talk to people online what’s the point of arranging to meet them offline and putting in the effort to go wherever you decide to meet and talk in person?

After I started doing a few of them, I realised my thoughts were wrong. Here’s some of the reasons why:

Credibility

The number of internet marketing seminars that have been held in India are next to none. I think apart from the one I held and one other one in Bangalore by Alok Jain, there haven’t been any.

Putting in the effort to hold it, promoting it offline (something I had no experience with) and being one of only two people that have held a seminar in India has given me a lot of credibility. Especially from the people that were at the event and I shared knowledge with.

Networking

Now a few of the people at the event I knew from before online (people that had contacted me through forums or read my old blog) but at least 15-20 of them I had never talked with or met before the event. I met people that had setup successful offline companies, people that worked in India for a long time, people that could help out with various things here, people I could JV with on online projects…

Of course I didn’t know this at the time but when I decided to move to India these people were a lot of help. One of the guys I met at the event filled me in on tax laws – another told me the average employee salaries and rent so I wouldn’t waste money setting up my own company. One person at the event ran a freelancing company which was relatively cheap compared to other ones for high quality – I still use him sometimes for articles. I’m probably going to do a big product launch with another person at the event sometime this year, while I’ve spoken with others about running paid coaching classes in India in future.

Although I can talk to some people online an hour a day for a year, I’ve found that it’s easier to build strong relationships in person (or even over the phone). I consider some of the people that attended strong business friends and will be meeting a few of them over the next year while I’m in India. It’s also good to have some friends that are in the same field as you – if I talk to people from school / university etc about IM, they’re interested but don’t really understand, whereas people you meet at seminars will know the basic stuff.

The Ripple Effect

This is part of the credibility thing, however going to an offline seminar / meetup also has a ripple effect.

See, (as an example) every person in internet marketing tends to have one or two friends that they talk to on a daily basis (at least). So say Jack came to my seminar, he tells his friend James what he did. Months later, James’ friend Bob asks him if he knows this guy called “Jason Pereira”. Wait a minute, yes he does!

The roundabout thing above is just an example, but in real life I’ve had people contact me or have them reply when I contact them, something like You’re Jason Pereira? Didn’t you hold some marketing event thingy in Mumbai? You get the idea.

So on a multiple of five, if each person at the event tells five people they met me, that’s an instant 150~ more people that have heard of me. This is subconscious trust – they’d be more willing to work with me, for me or buy stuff from me simply because they’ve heard my name before.

I’ve done one seminar and met maybe 20 people in other meetings because of Internet Marketing. Some of which I still talk to, others that I can call if I need help / advice with anything (and they can do the same, of course). Directly, I haven’t made any money from that seminar itself, but indirect I will make thousands due to the credibility, JVs and all that. And not to mention all the new friends.

The last thing is mastermind groups… which again is a type of networking, but it’s basically a way to make sure that all of you stay on track. For example, it’s easy to waste time online if you aren’t focus – imagine if you met five marketers every week or twice a month and had to tell them your progress, and you were held accountable for it? You’d be more likely to work hard if you knew five other people were waiting to hear how you did, and you also had five other people that would help you if you ran into any problems.

You could have a mastermind group for blogging, for affiliate marketing, for niche website development, for pay per click… whatever you want. You and your group could learn together and grow together – five heads are better than one.

So find 5-10 people from your area and see if they’d be interested in an offline meetup. Just to touch base, make new friends and learn. You can find them through places like Twitter, forums and so on.

Speaking of offline events, if any of you are in India check out this page… a coaching week in Bangalore teaching you how to make $500/month passive income at no cost whatsoever. Just a little thing I’m working on with a partner.

I’ve learned how to use h2 tags on here now, and they look pretty nice so posts should be better formatted etc in the future. Still not sure if I can be bothered to use things like images, but we’ll see

As I mentioned in my last post, I moved from my comfortable setup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and dropped out of university to set up a company in India, looking to take the whole internet marketing thing to the next level.

Although I stopped most internet marketing activities over the last 4-6 months, I was still involved in a few offline web development projects for local businesses (read more about this) – basically creating websites for them / offering other online services like SEO, marketing etc and charging them for my knowledge.

Now for most of my online projects, I’ve used the services of freelancers – the ideas for projects, keyword research I do myself, but all the complicated stuff or stuff that will take some time (for example, writing articles, building backlinks, design etc) I prefer to outsource simply because a) I’m not skilled enough to do most of that and b) I’m lazy.

However, when working in the offline world – more so than the online world, you have to deal with things like set deadlines, project updates… when you tell a company that their website will be done by Tuesday, it should be ready by Monday. Unfortunately, what I’ve found dealing with freelancers is that whenever you’re dealing with lower – mid priced freelancers, especially over a period of time, something always comes up that delays things – they get sick, or someone in the family visits, or a pet dies, stuff like that. A lot of that is truthful, but a lot of freelancers also work way too cheap, take on way too much work and then find out they can’t complete it because they’re overloaded.

So what I decided to do is move to India and set up an actual physical office there, one that would help me deal with this and also train my employees on aspects of internet marketing, so I could completely outsource everything and go bulk. My idea was (for example), I know how to build a niche website that can make $1/day within a week in say 1-2 days (if I did all the work myself). If I pay a freelancer to do it, it generally takes 3-4 days, not taking into account any delays.

If you go bulk, freelancers are expensive. In India, where a good salary for people is around $300 – $400 a month, it’s a lot cheaper to have someone full time as long as you’re willing to train them and teach them certain things, because “internet marketing” is still young there and thus employees have never heard of things like niche websites, Ezine Articles, directory submissions and so on.

My idea was that I’d get 4-5 employees at say $300 a month, train them on various things and then do whatever I wanted in bulk.

Those turnkey Clickbank product websites that sell for $500 a pop? I’d train my employees to put that together in one day (which would cost me about $50 total) and rinse, repeat forever.

Those niche websites that make $1/day? I’d train my employees to create 4-5 a day and rinse, repeat.

Those huge blogs that have thousands of backlinks, a lot of high quality content, thousands of subscribers and traffic per month? I’d train my employees what it took to create them and create five a month. Rinse, repeat, etc.

You get the idea.

And if I had any offline projects, I could guarantee my clients delivery – if I say X would be delivered on Tuesday, it would damn well be ready at least 3-4 days before. Offline, you can get paid upwards of $1,000 – $5,000 for a single website that would take a competent freelancer a day to produce – if you can guarantee delivery (and train your employees how to find those clients), can you see how much of a good idea this was?

Of course, nothing ever turns out as easy as you thought it would be (sometimes it turns out easier, but sadly this wasn’t one of those times).

I advertised on a website called Naukri.com (jobs in Hindi, rough translation) and have spent over 200,000 rupees (about US $4,500 – $5,000) to learn these lessons. Hopefully they’ll help you, amuse you, or even allow you to offer me advise!

From my advertisement for a) a full time web designer and b) a full time content writer (I decided to start with 2 employees), I found out…

1) Age matters

I was of the impression that no matter how young you were, finding employees would be no problem, given the world is in a recession and as long as you were knowledgeable about your field (whether I am or not is up for debate, but for this let’s just say I am ) people would be happy to work for you.

As soon as I saw the look on the first interviewees face when he walked in I knew I was wrong.

He didn’t say anything, of course, but I could see him thinking something along the lines of wtf? This little bacha thinks I’m going to work for him? Why did he waste my time and ask me to come in for an interview? (bacha = kid in Hindi).

Unfortunately, age plays a part in credibility. Of course, I had no (and still have very little) experience in setting up an offline, physical office, so the suspicions / cynicism may be well founded, but I found it more difficult to get people to commit to things simply because I was so young. In India for smaller jobs, especially for my company which is a sole proprietorship, things like formal contracts etc don’t really exist so people perhaps were wondering whether I’d last.

I didn’t realise this at the time, but thinking about it it’s a valid concern – if I was looking for a job, went in for an interview and there was a 14 year old sitting on the opposite side of the desk, I’d have a hard time wrapping my head around it.

2) Money matters

Once we started getting into things like salary and bonuses, I could sense a change in the mindset/attitude of the employee. Immediately, they became more serious, communicated more strongly and were not afraid to negotiate. This is because of the market – working for an 18 year old with no experience of setting up offline companies is probably a million times better than not having a job at all.

3) Don’t always take the first option

I originally set up in a place called Bangalore, partly because a) my grandparents stayed there, so I’d have a place to stay, people looking after me etc and also because b) Bangalore is a tech city so I thought getting employees would be easier there.

Because of this I rented out a two bedroom flat there, paid ten months deposit confirming a one year lease, renovated it and bought all the required equipment like computers, furniture, Internet etc.

What I found out around a week ago was that this was probably the wrong thing to do – in fact, I may be scrapping the Bangalore office completely (and wasting one year of rent) because of this.

The next city had an associate who I was introduced to by a friend, who had his own company with 100~ employees doing a similar thing – there they had business centers which could be rented for a month at a time, he were paying the same rate as I was for a non commercial flat for full fledged office space (with carpeting, good lighting etc) and employees were much, much cheaper there because the cost of living was less. (As an example, you could find people with similar skills / experience for around 6,000 rupees a month there (around $128 a month) compared to 15,000 a month (around $320 a month).

And before I’m shouted at by someone on paying inhumane rates etc (which is what I thought, I mean $128/month is less than $5 a day) that is the average for employees in that area, most of them are happy earning it, and you can live (I presume) fairly comfortably for that per month – not as a king, but comfortably.

So I’m looking at setting up my main business office in that city.

4) Contacts are everything

I literally knew nothing about India (since I’ve never lived there) or doing business there. Thanks to a few contacts, who kept introducing me to others, I managed to learn a lot – things like setting up a company officially, tax laws, employee laws, office laws and a whole lot of other things. I was also given a lot of business advice on things like handling my employees, scaling up from people that knew what they were talking about.

Online, the more people with experience / knowledge you know, the more experience / knowledge you can gain for yourself by sharing and communicating with them. Offline is no different

5) Professionalism is way better

In India, most of these kinds of businesses (2-5 employees, working on computers) are run out of residential space – ie flats converted into offices. I found that even though you’ll save a few thousand doing this (my Bangalore setup I’m paying a cheaper rent for space that’s more than ten times bigger than office space at the space cost (13,000 rent for 1,300 sq feet is what I’m paying now compared to 15,000 rent for 150 sq feet office space that I looked at earlier), employees are more likely to take you professionally if you have a “proper” office setup and you’ll see increased returns in things like productivity which should make up for the extra costs of rent etc.

So those were five things I learned as a result of hiring people and setting up an office. I’ve learned a few other things, but this post is around 2,000 words already and I’m sure your eyes hurt too much to read more.

I can say that I’ve found out costs and it will cost around 30,000 – 40,000 rupees (around $600-$800 per month (in one of those business centre setups) for full fledged office space, computers on rent, Internet, electricity, coffee, along with two employees. So around $20-$30 a day with all included. If I can make even $50 a day (utilizing the services of two full time employees working eight hours a day – of course they’ll have to be trained first) then I’m doing $900 a month profit. Which is nothing, really for places like the US etc, but in India?

You can live like royalty if you’re a person with no family to support making upwards of $900 a month profit in India.

Of course, my aims is that once the office fully kicks off (I hired one employee at 15,000 a month but recently fired him because he wasn’t up to scratch, and am looking at moving to another city than Bangalore so the office is on hold for now) is to step it up to huge amounts of money, as in $50,000+ a month (this just from the office activities, and not the stuff I’m doing myself).

I have the knowledge (I believe) to get to that level, and think that doing things is bulk (having 2-10 employees that can work on different things for me) will make it pretty easy given what I’ve been able to accomplish on my own.

However, I may be foolishly deluded, lose all the money I’ve spent on this so far as well as the rest of my balance in reserve, go bankrupt… if you’re interested in finding out how I do read this blog.

Given that I’m spending in rupees (the currency of India, in case some of you had no idea WTF I was talking about), and earning in dollars (one dollar = 45 rupees), I can screw up quite a lot and still do pretty well. Which is awesome for someone like me.

People asked for a post on my experiences, you may have found this post the most interesting/entertaining one in the world or think me someone that needs to get to the point and STFU. Let me know through the comments, and thanks for reading MMD.

Before the groans and the cyncism start, I’d like to say that you have no reason to believe me. In fact, in a post I made on the 22nd of January, 2009 (that long ago?) I promised I’d be going strong with this blog but it saw just three posts in the next 10 months, and none since April.

Pathetic!

I’m sorry about that – things came up, but hopefully the offer of some killer, personal content will persuade you to stick around.

This time I actually have ideas (and have already written some of) the posts that I’ll be putting up for the next month.

Here’s what I’ll be covering:

What I’ve learned hiring people offline

My biggest mistake in internet marketing which would have made me at least $500,000 by now had I not made it

My second biggest mistake in internet marketing which would have made me another huge chunk of money had I not made it

The <censored> (to be revealed) trick that cost almost nothing, brought in 100 subscribers, a tonne of publicity and goodwill

My plans for Make Money Dynamo and getting back to internet marketing after a 4-6 month break

What I’ve been involved in setting up an offline office and my experiences with that

The benefits I’ve found in attending internet marketing meetups

Interviews (one with Swastik Agrawal, one of my JV partners, and about our partnership that made over $1,000 the first five days after we started it) along with a few others

Talk about some of the big website sales and interesting happenings in the industry

How I got scammed… for how much, by who, and how to avoid it happening to you in future

Why you’re way too awesome for education

More how to make money online posts

I’m aiming for a post every 3-5 days, and already have a few people I’ve promised to on instant messenger – who will spam me to death should I not follow through. The above ideas should last me at least a month or two, and I’d love you guys to give me some things you’d like covered.

What’s been up with me? Well, I took a 4-6 month break from internet marketing, because I needed it – visited a couple places, met a few friends and made some business contacts that I’ve established mutually beneficial relationships with, and I’m currently working on setting up an offline office to take my internet marketing exploits to the next level (I have 3 full time, paid employees at the moment that are working on stuff for me).

I want to step it up to the elite level – $50,000 per month passive income. I do not believe that I have the work ethic or ability to do this myself, which is why I’m hiring – looking to expand as much as possible.

I dropped out of university simply because I was learning more useful things every day in the internet marketing sphere than I had learned in two years of my Business Administration course, and moved to India (Bangalore to be precise – if any of you are there or in India, would love to connect) to set up my office.

I’m getting back into IM blogging because a) I do miss it, even though I didn’t directly make a lot of money with it… I made a tonne of friends and build up a reputation for providing killer content – having read back I’ve just realised how good the content on my old blog was compared to the rest of the blogosphere (where most of the content is absolute garbage).

I also realised that I did all the initial work on this site, build up 1k+ subscribers and a lot of good posts, market it hard initally… and then forgot about it. Too many of my sites have gone the same way so didn’t want the same thing to happen to this, and although I’m emailing you guys after ages, hopefully a lot of you will stick around.

As for Casey, like me he just didn’t have the time to “blog”… unlike me he was never a blogger in the first place or someone that interacted socially with IMers so couldn’t really be bothered with the benefits. We’re still friends, we still work on projects together and give each other advice, but he won’t be continuing here at MMD.

I believe I am one of the most approachable internet marketers out there… so if you have any questions about something related to internet marketing, let me know and I’ll try to help you out.

I also plan to do a few webinars with this blog… did one yesterday with a partner, had a lot of fun and gave out killer income strategies. Get in touch! I’ll be trying to do a blog comment spree in the next few weeks, visiting some of the blogs I haven’t for ages and discovering a few new ones as well.

Alright, you asked us the questions, we’ll provide you with the answers!

Tess asks:

Hello,

I have a question. Which Wordpress Theme is this website using? I think it’s great!

Stanley: Previously, we were using a modified version of John Cow’s Milk It Premium Theme. The new theme that you’re seeing right now is a heavily customized version of the DarkZen theme.

Paulubiadas asks:

Aside from Commission Junction, what other affiliate network doesn’t need a need a call from the network to get your account approve.

I don’t have a telephone!

Stanley: Out the top of my head – Clickbank, PayDotCom. Also, like the others replied, Linkshare and Moreniche.

Tom – Free Blogging Success Ebook asks:

What is your favourite way to generate traffic to your blogs?

Stanley: Creating good content that people will naturally share and bloggers will naturally link to.

Josh: Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook have a huge potential traffic for your site, if utilized well.

Gloson asks:

How much traffic does The University Kid receive daily?

Stanley: 500-1000 unique visitors per day.

Nicole Price asks:

How much time per day do you devote to blogging?

Stanley: About 1 hour per day, while maintaining the site is a 24/7 job I spend most of my time running my internet business (blogging is just a small portion)

Michael Gaudet asks:

What auto-responder do you use at TUK to alert subscribers to every new post?

Stanley: Google Feedburner. I’ve also launched the TUK newsletter which will also alert subscribers when a new blog post is submitted. I use GetResponse for that (the best autoresponder service in the industry)

The Almost Millionaire asks:

Why do you not use adsense to generate revenue from this blog? It seems like with such good traffic and readership, it would do well?

Josh: A Direct Advertising solution is better than a CPC Advertising Network as there is no middle-man (i.e. Google), which means more revenue. This also enables us to have direct communications with the advertiser (e.g. about Price Negotiations, Ad Placements), something we can’t do with Google AdSense.

Stanley: Because you don’t make jack with Google Adsense. Just going to be a waste of real estate on the site. It’s way more profitable when you sell direct ads.

Ethan asks:

Now feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that TUK is a driven by social traffic, rather than search engine traffic – rending a contextual advertising service like adsense, almost useless.

Stanley: You are wrong about the social traffic. TUK is mainly driven by direct visits (i.e. people typing in the URL in their address bar). Second is Google. Third is Twitter. But you are right about that Adsense is almost useless for sites like TUK.

A asks:

Why do you think there are so few female internet entrepreneurs (compared to males)

When’s ProdigyMagic gonna launch? (it says april 2009!)

oh one more, where do you see the Internet going in the next 5 years?
Do you think it’s getting oversaturated, or just beginning its potential?

lots of questions

darn questions just keep coming to me

Question for both of you: What are some other good business books you recommend? (you mentioned the Rich Dad/Poor Dad series, the Four Hour Work Week)

Some I’ve liked are Freakonomics, Predictably Irrational; working through Microtrends right now. Always looking for good reads

Stanley: That’s a lot of questions Let’s take it one by one:

I have no idea why there are so few female entrepreneurs. Maybe it’s because of our culture – guys tend to be more geeky and tech-savy than girls. They are probably more into shopping. That’s just my guess.

ProdigyMagic.com will be launching soon. It’s been postponed because we (my business partner and I for ProdigyMagic – no it’s not Josh) decided that we wanted to do something else that is related to charity. Plus, we’ve both been overloaded with exams after exams.

The internet will continue to grow – exponentially. It’s nowhere near saturation and nowhere near it’s full potential. It’s only in its infancy and there are way endless platforms that have yet to be explored (semantic web, mobile apps etc) Especially in China, where internet penetration rate is only 22% (compared to 80% for USA) so there’s a huge room for growth.

Good books to read: A great one I just finished reading a few weeks ago was Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good (if you’re into web 2.0 startups). I also love reading Donald Trump and Seth Godin’s books – I suggest each and one of their books are worth it (except for Trump’s How To Think Like A Billionaire - that was his only rubbish). The Irresistible Offer by Mark Joyner and ProBlogger by Darren Rowse are also pretty good. I’ve also heard good stuff about Joel Comm’s latest book Twitter Power (haven’t read it yet) although based on past records Joel’s stuff always rock. And of course, eMillions

Huggies Diaper Coupons asks:

When first starting out in trying to make money online do you think it’s better to start with 1 site and try and make it grow and then profit big from it or start with many small niche focused sites and make smaller profits from each one.

Thanks,
Steve

Stanley: If this was 2006, I would have told you to build 100 small niche sites with each making $10 per month, netting you $1,000. But things have changed – a lot. Now, I would say focus on one and build it BIG from there. Pick a niche that you’re passionate about, that’s not too broad (that your blog looses focus) or too narrow (that your blog has no room to grow).

Melvin asks:

well my friend, do you have any plans of changing the theme here? if yes then when probably and what are the type of themes you are looking at?

Stanley: We just did a few days ago

Jonas asks:

How do you sell your Direct Advertising Spots? What is the program used and how can I do the same?

Josh: We use a WordPress PlugIn called OIOPublisher. This plugin handles all your advertising buying and selling proceses, so that you can focus on what you need to do – blogging. The only thing you have to do is approve the advert. The script can be installed on an unlimited number of domains and also works with PayPal subscription.

OIOPublisher usually costs $47, but for The University Kid readers, you can use the following code: INDIGO-UNIKID to get a discount of $10 off. You can easily make that money back with your first ad sale.

Jos asks:

Hello…

I have a site that receives over 45000 unique’s a month. But I am not able to generate more than 300$ avg a month. I am using adsense only. Almost 40% of total visitors are from US. Can you help me in monetizing it with a decent income?

Stanley: I need to know much more details about your site than that. Assuming it’s a content site, I suggest you to place direct ads, promote affiliate offers and get rid of Adsense.

Okay, I lied. I didn’t just use Twitter. I signed up for Magpie as well.

So what is Magpie? As many of you know, there’s currently a controversial new Twitter Advertising Company called Magpie, a company located in Germany. Magpie places relevant advert “tweets” which are placed along with your existing tweets. They pay according to 4 different models: pay per view, pay per click, pay per lead and pay per sale. Many people don’t like having adverts in

Just like any other Entrepreneurial Teenager would do, I signed up for this service (with a sub account) to experiment with it. At first, the adverts were about Magpie itself, or Magpie’s parent company’s other product called Stock Pilot. And then I discovered they paid an extremely high €20-30 per pay-per-view tweet. You can cash out after you reach €50. Now, simple maths can tell you that with only 2 magpie tweets, you can get up to €50 in your PayPal already! An example of the tweets are shown below.

So you might be asking, I made $337.91 (or €256.06) from something as simple as this? Well, it’s the truth. Check out my PayPal history:

A total of €256.06 from Magpie

Update: On April 30th, I received yet another €67.84 from Magpie, which brings that to a total of €323.90 (or $429.70) just for the month of April. Not Bad.So that’s all there is to the Magpie program. There’s so little work involved, anyone could earn a few euros with no experience.

I know Twitter  is for real people, and asks the question “What are you doing right now?”, not “What are you advertising right now? “.  But these magpie are actually relevant to your normal tweets, making them less like “advertising”, and sometimes they make it hard for someone to realize if it’s an ad or a real tweet.

Therefore, I’m closing the experiment down. But if you’ll like to experiment with Magpie and prehaps earn a few dollars euros, I suggest you to sign up for Magpie. Who knows, you might even get a few hundreds euros just like me!
