I’m still looking for short, one minute audio testimonials of a product of mine – if you can help out you obviously get the product free. I’d prefer people that have done something like this before, or people that I know, but email me or add me to MSN if you’re capable.
So… I’m someone that can’t design, can’t code. But I can market the crap out of anything, especially things related to blogging… which is why I’ve decided to enter the premium theme market.
I know there is a lot of competition, but I have a couple of ideas that will set me above and beyond the others out there. One of those will be the ability to get a custom drawn header with background, of similar quality to TUK’s one for just $30 if you purchase a developer’s license… now isn’t that sweet. I’ve always thought that there was little to know competition for standard MMO / Blogging Tip blogs… yes, the magazine premium theme market is completely saturated, but standard blogs – nope.
I will be investing around $x,xxx in marketing this premium theme, starting with reviews on a few of the top blogs out there; blogs that have proven to sell… I should have something to show you guys soon (the theme is ready, just dealing with issues across different browsers). I already have a domain name.
Anyways, I have a few ideas of my own, but I’d love to see what you guys can think up of – comment on this post with a marketing idea and the best one gets a developer’s license. For all those that don’t win, do not worry – there will be discounts for TUK / BP members (I’m thinking 25% off during the first week).
The football is starting soon and I have been deprived of it for quite some time now, so this post will end here. Let me know your ideas, and remember to enter to win the Creative Vado if you haven’t!

Get someone to design a free theme for you, and then put links and banners to your premium theme website in the place of the advertisements.

This is nothing special or unique, but you could hire someone to make ton of crappy Wp-templates for cheap and then attach a link to each themes footer with a backlink to the paid theme(And possibly to other sites too).
Then put all those themes on a website and do some advertising.(You got some nice free and targeted channels at Bp and TUK)
Just small amount of advertising is needed as when few people start use those at their blogs, the popularity of them will increase itself thanks to the footer-links.
Taddaah, great idea, isn’t it? Huh? Huhh? =P

Good one TUK, I know the themes will be of high quality. I definitely think a free them with backlinks would do wonders for it.
Start a blog about the theme using the them
Blog themes have the tendency to go viral, especially if they are from well known bloggers. I’m pretty sure your marketing will be well taken care of.

Hi Jason,
so you like football too? glad to find we have something in common, hehe…
anyway I’ll try my luck to describe a marketing strategy here: entrecard credits are pretty useless nowadays but the audience that it can reach out is wonderful… apparently you’re going to give 25% discount to your readers and BP members, but you should open an offer for like 10 other bloggers to qualify for extended discount, say perhaps up to 40% or 50%… to qualify, they have to change their entrecard graphics and widget URL to point to your premium theme site, then each of them has to do maximum 300 drops for say 5 continuous days, each of them targetting different blogs to drop their cards… 300×10=3000×5days=15000 different blogs in theory … for a finale, ask them to use up all the credits earned in that 5 days to advertise across entrecard network… anyone willing to go that far? i would, if it will earn me your developer license or a copy of your niche flipper (I’m being greedy here hehe…). So what do you think? Workable or is this a mad idea?

Sounds like a solid idea. Looks like you really think that this project can take off since you have so much money targeted toward the project. Best of luck in that venture.

How about doing a video and putting it on YouTube, hoping that it goes viral or at least semi-viral. I haven’t seen anything like that on there.

Any idea is worth something. Making that idea reality is what counts. So, good luck.

Humm, not a bad idea, I agree with the others, a free theme should really help you out.

give away free wordpress themes, but the catch is…you host the footer.php locally. you can then sell textlink ads which will be rotated monthly as advertisers change. of course the user can change the URL of the footer.php to his/her own, but you’ll have to find a way to combat that.

My idea for marketing is:
I think you should try to find quality blogs that are preparing to have contests and offer your theme as a donated prize (or even if they aren’t planning to have a contest solicit them to have a contest for your theme!). This should give the theme a fair amount of exposure, as I’m sure you know, contests bring in bloggers from all over the blogosphere. The good thing IMO is that a large amount of contest prizes go unclaimed/unused so you could actually get the exposure without having to give out all of the items you promised. Just a thought….
