First things first… I get a few requests for advertising swaps on a weekly basis but prefer not too… however, I’m not all too concerned about monetizing the blog so…

The first two people to comment on this post get a free 125 x 125 banner for a month. One condition: You must be in the Top Commentators list to avail of this. I prefer rewarding people that take an active interest in TUK rather than less active ones (no offense to all that are lazy like me :) ). Just comment on here; two are available (I need the others for future projects) and let me know. Of course, family friendly sites only.

One of the easiest ways to generate some quick, easy cash is to make money flipping websites… it’s not uncommon to walk away with earnings of more than $50 or $100+ for an hour’s work. The problem with this is that people do not know how to sell websites, and due to this sell theirs at a much, much, much lower rate – for example, I’ve picked up websites on one webmaster forum for $x and sold them on another for $xxx, just by changing the title and editing a few other things, which I will discuss below.

How Can You Increase The Selling Price Of Your Website… Free?

Obviously you can’t have a rubbish website; it needs to be half decent for any website to sell, no matter how cheap. If you have a relatively standard website though, here’s how you can increase its value (assume no traffic or revenue).

Start your bid price real low

Most of you sell your websites on forums… and if you do, the best way to get exposure for your auction is by listing a low start price.

By low, I mean something like $1, or even $0.01. You see, the more your thread stays in the limelight, the more eyeballs get to see it… and that means more potential buyers.

The medium sized to big sized hitters won’t care about bidding over peanuts, but the newbies definitely will… and them bumping your thread (or increasing the number of bids on Sitepoint) will mean that there’s more chance one of those larger sized buyers will see it. An active auction is going to be looked at by most people viewing such forums, even if they weren’t interested in such a website before… and once they see yours they may even make a bid.

Set Your BIN (Buy It Now) At Double What You Think You Want

This is simple, really – if low start price, high end price. If you want $100 for your website, set a BIN of $200. Why? Because you’ll often have someone swoop in and take it at such a BIN (especially with the bidding frenzy you create in the first step) and remember, you can always lower a BIN, never raise it. If you lower it by a chunk midway through an auction (with bids) looking for a quick sale, you’ll usually get it.

Obviously don’t be prohibitive, and think your fresh Wordpress blog with two posts is worth $20,000, but following the two times your original BIN approach (especially for lower priced sites) has worked well for me.

Use A Killer Title

Which would you be more likely to click, of the two examples below?

New Niche Content Website For Sale, Priced Competitively

or

AMAZING Design and Monetization Potential… Start Dominating Today!

If you chose the first one, read both again. Usually it will be the second type of title that catches more attention though – superlatives and positives always help. Make sure you stuff your auction description full of the good points too. :)

Add A Community

Even if you’re just selling a niche Wordpress blog, a site with a community feature is usually worth more than one without… as a community means potentially loads of free content for the buyer if they market it correctly.

You don’t even have to pay anything for one… a free forum, integrated with Wordpress, one which you can create using a plugin called XDForum would help add value. I’ve managed to install it in the past, so you have no excuses for not being able to.

Just four tips on how you can increase your website’s value… all don’t cost a dime and anyone can do them. Good luck!

Speaking of communities, I’ll probably purchase a course about membership sites today using Joomla, as I’ve always wanted recurring income. I will certainly let everyone know how it goes. :)
