I know this is an old post. I came across it through another blog. I’m not commenting on the overall post, but I just wanted to point out that it is entirely possible to get RSS subscribers without the subscriber ever visiting your site.

All you have to do is submit your feed to various feed sites and people can subscribe from those sites. If you offer a full feed, people can read all of the content from your site AND sign up without ever visiting your site.
