First off, thanks to all for the comments on yesterday’s post. I was a bit disappointed that no one called me an idiot outright, but the comments helped me weigh out the decision, and while it may have been better in the short term to take the money, long term it obviously wouldn’t be… I’ve taken too much of a short term look at life and now will be concentrating on the long run, as I mentioned a while back.

What I’m thinking is that in a couple months, there’s no reason this blog isn’t capable of earning say $1,000 a month… at which point six grand will seem like small fry. We’ll have to wait and see I guess, and all will be made clearer soon enough.

My current contest is doing pretty well… about 100 increase in subscribers so far which means the increase is around double of what I had before it… something I’m pretty happy with, considering my original goal was to get 300 RSS subscribers this year! The goal is now 1,000, and I think that can be reached… I’ll be having another big contest as soon as this one gets over because well, you guys are pretty cool :)

I sent off a few emails yesterday, and was met with 100% favourable responses, meaning that I already have near $1,000 in digital goods already committed as prizes – some of these from the masters in the industry they’re in, so stay tuned. I’m going to use the normal methods used for contests – you’ll need to subscribe/blog about this/comment, or any combination of the three so if you don’t have a blog, and want to be in with a better chance, get one – now. :)

I’m still looking for more contest sponsors - the more, the merrier or so they say. Sponsoring a contest – prizes offered do not have to be ground breaking, and can be worth as little as $5.00, but it can generate you a decent amount of exposure – I’ll be requiring all those that write a blog post to link to the subscribers and also will be putting up a link in the RSS feed footer to those that sponsor goods worth more than $100, so offer up something and you’ll get a nice amount of exposure and backlinks to your website. My only request is that donated prizes be original – by that, I mean no PLR eBooks or similar because well we all have enough of those. Advertising on your website, cold hard cash and other things like premium Wordpress themes would be well appreciated, as that’s something everyone can use. You could even sponsor some Entrecard credits if you like, but I’d require the minimum amount offered up as 500 credits – less than two days of card dropping for the over-eager ones amongst you

I’ll be working over things in the next few days – do any of you have suggestions to make this one better than any contest the blogosphere has ever had?

I just drew the winner for the last contest (comment subscriber) and will do the RSS one too soon – when I post it up, the winner will have seven days to claim his/her prize otherwise it becomes void and I’ll donate it to charity. Sorry for the urgency, but last time around for the big one I had I was faced with quite a few people that didn’t claim their prizes, and it’s a pain running after people. I’ll also require prizes up front if possible for this contest, although that won’t be possible for some prizes, for others it should be; last time I had sponsored prizes where various companies didn’t reply to emails (and one of them shut down! :o ) when it came time to dish out the prizes.

If you want to sponsor something, or have ideas to improve the contest as a whole, drop me an email at admin[at]theuniversitykid[dot]com.

I’ve started private messenging the Make Money Online bloggers at Entrecard and will probably do Internet Marketing too shortly. Tough work, but it’ll be beneficial I hope. I’ll also look at snapping up tons of credits, maybe on eBay or something… we’ll see eh

At the moment, the date for the contest is around March 5th.

A (rare!) short post from me today, check it out and let me know what you think. ;)
