This post is slightly later than usual (or maybe not) but anyways, I was busy setting up a new website for a latest project. At the moment, I’m buzzing with a crazy amount of ideas – I’m putting them into action as I can as I know if I hold back, I won’t do it so as I had the time I went full steam ahead on this one. Although I will have to hold back on these while my exams are ongoing (still need guest posters, send me an email) I will start marketing the crap out of these projects when they’re over as I’ll have a good three months or so to do that.
Anyways, my latest project:
(Yes, I know that the logo looks like it was designed by a third grader, however I actually paid for it
)
It’s called “4 Blog Hosting” and I picked up a nice short domain for it, that is 4bh.org. What it basically will be is a website that will offer free Wordpress blog hosting to others – I did say I wanted to help out bloggers without the funds to buy hosting of their own, and this website is a place where they can go, send me details of what they need and I can hook them up on my VPS. Fairly easy, hey?
What the website will also offer is a Hostgator Rebate; and that is how I will be making money. For all those that want to upgrade or move over to Hostgator, I’ll basically pay for the first two months of the move, quite a fair option I think to new bloggers. They get two months free, and I pick up the affiliate commission on the referral.
You see, I was thinking… a standard website usually sells for around ten times a month’s revenue, or that is what the sales at Sitepoint would dictate at least. So, taking this into account… a website that made five Hostgator referrals a month would be worth $5,000 and a website that made ten Hostgator referrals a month would be worth $10,000. Probably not so high, but a good chunk of that at least, especially if I can get it somewhat established. I will be SEOing it for some long tail keywords and running a couple of contests to get it off the ground; you should be able to subscribe if I’ve set it up properly
It is still not at all done; most of the pages need adding to and some posts need to be written up but the framework is there. I’ve used the Revolution Pro Business theme which is definitely a sweet one (it is the same one I’m using for Dubai Den) and it does what it needs to. So if you need hosting, head on over there and send me a message.
Blog Premiere forums are now setup so that only posters with more than ten posts can see the private section; there were too many people just signing up, not contributing at all just to see it. I didn’t really like that so got George to tweak stuff – it is well worth the five minutes you will take to post the ten posts as there is a wealth of information available there that anyone can use.
That project I mentioned earlier – something that I had not seen discussed anywhere; I’m making a few tweaks to that, and will no longer be doing it with proxies – however, all I can say is that if it kicks off, I’ll be making something close to 30 – 40x my investment without having to break a sweat (minimal work). I should (hopefully!) be getting hooked up with a credit card this weekend, so will be putting it into action after my exams, however I have already gotten the go ahead from certain individuals and I cannot see how it will not work. If it does or doesn’t, I’ll post here.
I also got my parents to buy me a few books, which I’ll be taking a look at (after these exams, gaah) – one of which is Seth Godin’s Purple Cow which I’ve heard is a very good read. I asked them to get Problogger’s book too but it didn’t seem to be available in any of the local stores, so I’ll look at buying from Amazon whenever I can (again, after exams).
I asked this a while ago, but it’ll be interesting to see how people are coming along – what projects are you working on, and what do you think of my Free Wordpress Blog Hosting site?

Have ideas too, but haven’t had the time (or presence of mind) to put them out especially as i’m trying to get my blog of its feet.
I guess with the right marketing you’ll be able to pull off the hosting , best of luck

What do I think? I think it’s a great idea. If it works, it’ll be a brilliant idea!
For me, what is even more important is the fact that you have ideas and you go for it. If it doesn’t work out, you learn from it (re: your previous post).
What projects am I working on? I don’t have as much time as I’d like as I’m more or less working full time. However, I’m thinking about reviving one of my pastimes that I really used to enjoy doing.
take care and good luck with your latest idea.

Incentivized commissions, and offering any form of incentive to obtain a sale is forbidden <per HG
But, good try.

Sounds like a great idea, I wouldn’t have thought about pushing HostGator as a way to get referral money. I’m sure you considered putting ads up on the hosted websites, any reason you decided to change on this? I was actually thinking of a similar project (can’t beat that domain though
) and installing a rotating banner ad on the hosted website that I can make commission off. Any reason you aren’t doing that? I know it looks tacky, but hey… its reliable money if you get off the ground!

Sounds cool but a website like that already exists so I would have no use for it lol. Make sure it isn’t against HostGators terms of service because some hosting companies dont allow you to provide free hosting

Its good to see that you want to help by offering free hosting but offering just 50MB space and 1GB bandwidth is too little to be offered free. Atleast offer 100MB and 5GB bandwidth. 1GB is too little even for newbie bloggers.

@ Jon, I asked them about that and they said what I’d be doing is alright… I’ve seen others do the same :S. Anyways, I’ll clarify before I start marketing.
@ Emma, I asked them that too, as that was something I was scared about them not allowing, however they said it was alright.
@ NSpeaks, you’d be surprised… I used something like 2 GB bandwidth combined in my first three months at TUK, and it grew slightly faster than most new blogs will do. I can probably bump up the bandwidth though.
@ Jim, don’t think many would use a new service with ads, even though I’ve seen a few of them do well. I don’t think things forced on people – if they’re going to start blogging, they should enjoy the full experience.

Hehe, believe it or not, I actually have similar ideas with your 4bh.org, but not with the final aim of selling the domain and just promoting hosting affiliate products
will take tips from you venture, I still need to pool up some funds!

I like the site! When I finish setting up my site on a localhost, I may head over there to find some good deals on hosting. Or I might go with dreamhost which can have unlimited domains, and one is leaving, lionandmagicboy.com, and there would still be enough room. (Especially because lionandmagicboy.com had about 500 posts)
Good luck!
