The University Kid as a blog is aimed at the reader; my target is to help you guys by bringing you some of the best content on the web. I hope that this blog will maintain its quality, and will never become a spam bilboard – if it ever does, please call me a name of your choice and let me know :)

I was doing my regular bout of browsing irrelevant websites instead of working on my projects money making research today when I somehow stumbled across this great post by Dosh Dosh; it’s a few months old, but is still pretty relevant in today’s world – anyways, just in case any of you haven’t seen it, check it out as it’s a good read on how to make money with tshirts.

Since I was banned from Digital Point and thus the ease of selling eBooks, I’ve been on the lookout for other markets to venture in – one of those is affiliate marketing of course, and although I haven’t done much with it yet this seems a great place to start. With a basic website being all that is needed to start using tshirt affiliate programs, I vowed to spend thirty minutes working on one, and I now present you with Tshirt Deals.

The domain name is pretty sweet, albeit a .NET; it will become a simple Wordpress blog that I’ll update 2-3 times a day and should eventually become a searchable database for tshirts. I decided to use Tshirt Hell because of their sweet affiliate program; no matter what the sale amount, you get paid $4 – $4 earned on a $7 sale (their lowest) isn’t that bad at all, and heck; I might buy a few hundred of my own through my affiliate link :)

Basically, the idea is to setup a basic website (Maki recommends using a Wordpress blog) and promoting it in the various ways listed; it’s an interesting thought, and one that takes only a few minutes to setup, so why not give it a go. :)

I will be targeting the college demographic, people the same age as myself; although I’m using Tshirt Hell, and their logos may be a bit too obscene for some, Maki provides a list of 31 tshirt affiliate programs, ranging from tshirts for the hardcore punksters amongst you to tshirts for the most docile of characters. I’d appreciate some feedback on my new website… what do you think? Is there anything I’ve completely messed up and could be bettered? Also, if you’re going to try this out, let me know and we can have a friendly competition of sorts

Designer and Coder

I’m still looking for a decent quality, affordable designer and coder, and so are a lot of my readers judging by the comments in my last post… if you know anyone that can create HTML templates from scratch and/or tweak Wordpress themes, and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg, let me know… if s/he’s good, I’ll recommend him/her on TUK and that could send some fair bit of business.

What I’m looking for:

1) A custom HTML template to be created, one that will be used for the money making idea I mentioned in my last post as well as a few other niche websites.

2) A simple, custom Wordpress theme to be created, for the as-yet-unnamed project I spoke about a couple days ago, one I feel could go viral.

3) A Wordpress theme that I already have (a pretty sweet one too) that I’ll be branding and giving away free on my blog; I need it to be widgetized so that it’s easy for tech newbs like myself to customize. The theme can currently be seen at Vuxt.com.

I get ‘killer ideas’ (well, they seem killer to me anyways, until they divebomb spectacularly  ) daily and having a designer on call that could create decent quality for cheap would be amazing :)

My Wordpress theme got featured

The customization that was done to this Milk It theme (by John Cow) was liked by WP-Premiums, and its currently the featured one on their website, which is great… note, I had nothing to do with the customization myself, being rubbish at tweaking things, but I do think it looks pretty nice. Anyways, thanks to WP-Premium and they’re holding a cool contest at the moment where you can win a couple Wordpress premium themes – check it out. :)

Gmail hack

I registered a pretty cool Gmail email address today, for novelty value if nothing else; theuniversitykid[dot]com@gmail.com. I’ll be using it to subscribe to the RSS feeds for various contests and maybe a little promotional work on the side. If your blog is still available, snap it up! :)

I could of course have just gotten TheUniversityKid@gmail.com, but that isn’t a hack and loses its cool factor

Guest posting

I promised I’d be trying to assault the blogosphere with guest posts of my own and two of them were published; we’ll see how it goes, well hopefully. The two you can take a look at if you’re bored and have nothing to read are my post on embracing your readers at Mixed Market Arts and setting yourself goals at Jim Karter. If you have more than 300 RSS subscribers and have space on your blog for a guest post, just let me know; I should have one going live soon on Tyler Cruz as well :)

My butt is being throughly whooped by Internet Babel, so if you haven’t subscribed, help me out and do so now – using an RSS reader or via email. If you have a way to get the word out about this contest, please let me know – if you’d like to plug it, or sponsor a prize (or ten), it would be a great help. Thanks! :)

If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!

Great idea with the tshirt blog. I have seen some awesome t-shirt blogs similar to this, so what I would do is see what they do good and why they get the traffic!

Hit me up if you are looking for a custom blog design though, and ill see what I can do.

Looks like you have some designers all lined up already! Blatantly promoting some of your sites on your others sites is no big deal. All the greats do it!

Great post, and thanks for all the info and suggestions!

Nice tshirt website. The domain name is great. I am surprised the .net was not taken.

I am in need of designers as well. If you find any suitable to your liking, please share. Thanks!
