Note, this is a paid review and not influenced (much :) ) by me getting paid. If you’d like a paid review for your own website, please check out my Advertise page.

Out in the cutthroat world that is the internet there are tons of webmasters that do this – checking their statistics every five seconds in hope for an improvement, and nearing suicide when the update doesn’t go in their favour. You have Google Pagerank and Alexa as the most commonly searched statistics, and then of course various other things like incoming links, search engine ranking position and whatnot. One website that offers something unique is SEO Meter.

SEOMeter provides yet another tool for webmasters to keep track of their websites – that is to check how often Google crawls your website. I don’t claim to be the master of all this tech-stuff, but I’ll use the simple analogy – the more times you’re crawled, the better, I’m assuming. Being crawled more often means Google indexes your pages quicker and thus your rankings can increase – that’s the most of my knowledge, but you can get a lot better understanding by checking out the website yourself ;)

Their homepage explains it far better than I ever could, and hopefully makes it easier to understand.

How often search engine visits and crawls website content is an often neglected, but important metric for search engine optimization. Search engine’s crawing rate can be quantified by crawl cycle (CC), which is the time between two consecutive crawls by search engine robots. A short CC usually means that the website is “trusted” by search engines, and this trust, in turn, is reflected on the website’s search engine ranking.

Ah, so the more you’re crawled, the more Google trusts you. Who wouldn’t want to be trusted by the Big G?

Above is the chart for this blog. By itself, the meaning is pretty unclear – here’s what it looks like compared to good ole JohnChow.com

Ouch. Despite his aura of evilness, Google trusts John Chow a lot more than they do me. Ah well, eh? ;)

Seo Meter offers an analysis of your crawl cycle – up to three months beforehand. Here’s the stats again for TUK.

Yet another metric that I can check up every so often, to how my website is doing. Not something I will do so daily, as I’m someone that to be honest doesn’t really see the value in how often I’m being crawled and I’d think a lot of less technically-orientated webmasters would feel the same, but for those that are interested in such things this is an amazing tool, especially when you factor in the price.

The best thing about SEOMeter.com is that it is 100% free. No cost for websites on main domains, meaning that you can go over there right now and check how you’re doing compared to various other people. It has interesting facets such as the ability to see the top ten websites crawled, in this case in the category ‘internet marketing’

I did promise a honest review, so it’s time to go over how I think the website could be bettered. To be honest, I don’t think there’s much wrong with it at the moment, as it does what it says on the tin, has a promising design and is doing pretty well in terms of promotion from what I can see, as I’ve seen it mentioned on a lot of blogs so far.

Eventually I do think that the website should expand its range of tools. Sure, it does a great job of what it promises now, but think of the amount of extra traffic it would receive if it added in the common tools – a Pagerank/Alexa checker, backlinks viewer, PR prediction tool et cetera… the domain is a fairly decent one and this website should eventually look at competing with the likes of IWebtool in terms of traffic and exposure. All I can say is good luck. :)

Oops, almost forgot – they also provide a nifty little auto updating widget that you can stick on your website/blog to stay constantly in touch. Below is an example of what the 125 x 125 ad looks like :)
