Sometimes you get ideas that you just got to try out… if you don’t, you’ll never know what might have been
Sadly, these ideas are often verging on the point of insanity, so for all those that feel this way… I’d like to plead insane. So if, after reading my post, you feel I’m crazy, at least I can say I warned you first.
I’d love to say the idea came through to me entirely by myself, but I’d be lying… it actually came after watching The Secret, a documentary we looked at during our spare time in a Psychology lecture. Now, first off, let me state that I think the whole concept of that video, of ‘hoping’ for things and they will come to you – that’s a load of rubbish, but nevertheless, it speaking about putting together the actions to get the objects of your dreams was pretty… interesting. What I found most interesting was interviews that had been put together with supposedly successful people, all outlining how ‘The Secret’ had helped them. I doubt ‘The Secret’ had anything to do with them becoming successful at all, but there we go.
It’s here I got the idea for this next little project of mine. You see, this guy spoke about wanting to make $100,000 a year… obviously that’s something I’d aspire to as well. He was a writer, but wasn’t doing too well… I believe he was making $800 a month before he hit across wealth, or so he said. His idea was that to reach $100,000, he’d have to sell 400,000 copies of a 25c book. Possible? Well, certainly; easy, definitely not. As he was talking about an actual hard cover book, I’m not sure how much of that was profit, but eventually he made (again, according to the video) $93,000 or so after going wild on newspaper, radio and whatnot.
That’s where the gears started ticking, although it took a while to manifest. You see, while reaching $100,000 is a decent dream, most of us, especially those with even ‘average’ jobs will amass that amount over the course of our lifetime. The real goal for most of us should be to try and reach seven figures, or upwards of $1,000,000. Despite me having never even seen that amount in cash, or even a tenth of it, I’m striving to reach that number… and you guys are going to help.
In life, you generally tend to fall short of your goals… although if you reach anywhere near them, you’ll be happy. That guy aimed for $100,000, but fell short – as he said, do you think he cared, considering he hadn’t made such wealth in his whole lifetime before? This is why for me, aiming for a million is key… even if I fall well short, heck even if I only make a tenth of the amount… I’ll be pretty darned happy with life.
Anyways, let me stop the waffling – you guys know I can write, I hope; most of you have seen past examples of a couple of my eBooks, and of course there’s this blog. I’ve also done fairly well with short written eBook guides in the past; nothing spectacular, but they’ve made some money. Anyways, the whole concept is to become the world’s first one dollar millionaire. Basically, someone that made his fortune off one dollar reports.
As I mention on the sales page, at the moment there’s no way I’d be able to command even $100 for my reports… you see, I’ve got very few fans out here in the world of internet marketing, and out of those, few are deluded love me enough to fork out $100 for something I’ve written, no matter how promising I say it’ll be. Even by promoting $10 products, it’s unlikely that I’d make enough sales required to make one million dollars, as the lack of reputation plays in a bit (ten dollars is enough that people could buy hosting for a month or a domain, rather than a guide) so the average user, one that had never heard of me before would probably be 99% unlikely to fork over the money.
A one dollar report on the other hand… how many people that can afford computer usage would miss one dollar? You waste insane amounts of spare change weekly on complete rubbish, so another dollar isn’t going to be a big loss. In fact, if something useful was offered up, I’m sure people would be more than happy to part with that dollar, as these days value for money is becoming a more and more obsolete term. What I decided to do was create a short (well, 3,000 words or so) report and aim to make one million dollars… in sales. There, you can call in the psychiatrists as I’ve clearly lost it
What I’m thinking is that even if this bombs completely (although I have a few marketing ideas up my sleeve) this should get me, and thus this blog a little bit of exposure… even if there’s a ton of people calling me a complete nutcase, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
Sadly this eBook isn’t about making money online; I’ll be targeting the social networks (like Facebook, Myspace, Digg, Stumble Upon) and wanted to create something that would convert well there, so I’ve written up a ‘life tips’ guide, one that should be well received. The guide is titled ‘Seven Ways To Live A Better Life‘ and is approximately a little more than 3,000 words long, well formatted and contains a few pictures (something I’ve often lacked).
I have seen this attempted before (people aiming to reach a million off a lot of one dollars) however the reason they failed is because they didn’t offer anything useful to their readers; I however (hopefully!) have, and when you do something like that you’ve got a much better chance than someone begging for donations.
I’ll update on how this goes; if you want to join the madness, and help me become the world’s first One Dollar Millionaire, go over to the website and make a purchase. Trust me, it’s worth a lot more than the dollar
Any thoughts?

Did i start your earnings through your million dollar site?
Just bought one and i see still no one has commented here. Lemme read the 7 ways

“Don’t spread yourself too thin” but then again .. I know you said there’s nothing to lose… so gluck!
Jason just saved myself four dollars woohoo
I have bought for less
crazier reasons.
Not bad for one dollar though.
Instead of a single book consider offering several one dollar books so that
buyers can have a choice. Your ebooks about making money online is
good, you can offer a condensed version IMHO.
Lesson learned Jason: Never watch ‘The Secret’ haha

The secret is just a way to think positively. In order to make thing happens, you need to have a positive thinking. The more time you spend on something, the bigger your possibility to reach your goal.

Heh, It’s a great idea Jason, might steal it (with a considerably smaller target and different product) just to see how it goes
Don’t like this whole one page buy thing though, I never really trusted a site like that

Its tough enough getting 1,000,000 unique visitors to a site, much less getting them to buy something. I think it could work though, the trick will be marketing it to the masses. Good luck with it and I look forward to following your progress.
BTW, love the “25 reasons why you should participate” list on the sales page, very funny!

Great idea, and I admire your ambition! People LOVE lists! It’ll be interesting to see how this works out.
I’d really like to see it work for you but if I’m being 100% honest, I don’t think it will. But who cares, always go through with your ideas, no matter how stupid you might think they are, you never know until you try.
I’m going to predict that by the end of march you would have sold about 80.
Good luck though.

egk it’s more easy to get 1 millions visitors than $1 million. I’m sure I can get 1 millions unique visitors if people stumble or digg my articles

I will buy one right now as well. But I was thinking of two points here.
1. how much paypal takes out of it.
2. Have you heard the word “L” for “Leverage”. You could have kept it lets say $5 and leveraged the other bloggers (and their readers) by just paying them 50% affiliate fee.
Just my 2c.

I’m going to have to shed a little light on the whole Secret idea…
It’s not “hoping” for something to happen. It’s knowing, seeing, and believing that it will happen. If you just hope for something, then you’re secretly thinking that it could possibly not happen. If you let that doubt enter your mind, then you don’t truly believe that it will happen, therefore you reduce the likelihood of it happening.
It can also be called Faith. If you have faith that something will happen, then you are much more likely to have it happen than if you just hope that it will.
If you dwell on negative things, then negative things seem to always enter your life. If you concentrate on the positive things, then your life seems to be heading up. Basically, your mind is a very powerful tool, and can be used very effectively by some people.
This kind of sounds like that Social Millionaire website that John Cow talked about.
Thank you, Chris, for making that comment about the “The Secret.” I came here to comment on that specifically and you started it off great.
I would like to add that as great as “The Secret” movie is, it really over-simplifies how The Law of Attraction works. In its essence, yes, it is as simple as “Ask. Believe. Receive.” Having “limiting beliefs” makes LOA more challenging… although those beliefs CAN be cleared to allow LOA to work more easily for you.
It comes down to the basic principles of “Like attracts Like” and “What you focus on expands.” Focus on your lack of money (or your debt) and that is what you will attract in your life. Focus on what you want (more abundance, for example) and actually BELIEVE that you will have that and it will appear in your life. I can personally attest to the fact that LOA does work because I’ve been practicing it for over a year now. Some things are harder than others, but it does work.
To your prosperity,
Epiphany

Just bought a copy. Good luck, my friend. I admire your ‘go out and get em’ attitude.
take care…
First I agree with what is stated above about seeing, believing, achieving with The Secret…its not about hoping but its fulling believing that something is going to happen and actually making it happen.
Second, I like your idea…and I was wondering about the PayPal thing to? I am on my way to purchase an ebook now…
Whoa, one full dollar? That’s quite a huge chunk of cash man…. Anyway I could get some sort of discount? >:)
@Kara:
Or better yet, “Can I get a review copy”!
I bet Jason has probably been asked that a few hundred times with the ebooks he has put out!!!
egk’s last blog post..Mercedes-Benz R129 Roadster :: RE: SL600 1994 engine bay wiring loom
@Kara – It is only $1. Isn’t learning something new that might help you in the future worth $1 to you?
Purchase the eBook. If you do not find it helpful (which I doubt you will), tell Jason to contact me (or post back in this page) and I will give you a $1 refund by PayPal. In order to be eligible for the refund, you must show me proof that you purchased the report. I will also contact Jason to verify the purchase. So, what is there to lose?
If your comment above was “sarcastic”, then disregard the response above.
Actually I have seen the movie The Secret. But I don’t think it is true.
Anyway I wish ya luck with the 1 mil page
There you go, teenage years striking again. Good luck

One way you can expand on this for people who don’t want to pay $1 for the report is to offer it as an incentive for a $1+ affiliate sign-up offer… You could end up earning $1.25 or more from those people.
Great post. I think that $1 is easy for people to cough up. i look forward to an update about how this worked for you.
