Robert Allen, who is one of my mentors, has earnt over half a BILLION dollars in his lifetime. That is a very good amount of money by anyone’s standards. He has also helped more people become millionaires than anyone else in the world.

One of the things he swears by is building subscriber lists. These do not have to be paid subscriber lists, they just simply need to be lists of people who are interested in a certain topic.

Today I am going to be talking about the value of a list, and in a couple of days I will post more about how to build your list.

Get 10,000 Subscribers

Robert Allen says that if you can get the names and email addresses of 10,000 people who are interested in a certain topic then you can become a millionaire pretty easily. Personally it is my goal to have 10,000 subscribers by July 1st (or by the end of the year at the latest). Currently I have about 650 and this is growing rapidly.

You Can Make $1/Month Per Subscriber

Take for example Tyler Cruz who has around 2,000 RSS subscribers. He makes around $1-$3/month per subscriber. That is not a bad deal. Also, these are RSS subscribers who he doesn’t know the names or email addresses of. If you have newsletter subscribers who you know the names and email addresses of then this is even more powerful.

John Chow has around 40,000 RSS subscribers and he too makes around $1/month from these subscribers. That is $40,000/month (which is more than most of us make in a year.

Newsletter subscribers are valuable because each one is worth around $1/month each. If you have 10,000 then you can easily make $100,000 per year. That is a good wage by anyone’s standards.

You can Build Long Term Customers

The best thing about building a list is that you can build long term customers. If customers buy from you once and like your products then it is almost certain that they will purchase items from you again. If you fail to collect the contact details of these people then you lose these future sales.

Long term customers are where you are going to make the most of your money. Imagine if you build up a list of 10,000 customers who loved your stuff and bought whatever you offered them. You could easily make $1,000,000 by selling a $100 product to each of these customers.

You Can Create a Sales Funnel

A sales funnel is where you funnel people towards a back end product. Basically, like a funnel, you reel a lot of people in to the top of the funnel with free stuff, then you get a percentage of those people to buy a small product, you then get a percentage of those people to buy a large product. You funnel people towards the large product.

You slowly get people to trust you and then offer them a product worth $1,000-$5,000 (or more). If you get 20 people paying you $5,000 then that is $100,000!

See the potential?

I started a thread on Digital Point forums which you can view at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1198463 and I spoke about the value of having a subscriber list.

I was SHOCKED! that so many people spoke against having a subscriber list. Robert Allen has earn over half a BILLION dollars so I am definitely going to listen to him over anyone else.

I am saying this because there will be people out there (maybe even in these comments) who will try to talk you out of building a list. But there is lots and lots of money to be made doing this.

Almost all internet marketers swear by this and use this to make them thousands (or even millions) every year. I am building my list…are you?

Agree with you. There’s no way list is a bad thing. After all, e-mail marketing is one of the strongest internet marketing technique around.

I don’t see any real reason why you should want to build up your subscription list except to increase page rank and the speed that your blog pages get indexed. Good post though.

I don’t think that subscribers have anything to do with how much you make unless you’re making all your money from paid reviews. A site might have tons of traffic and no subscribers at all.

    Just saying…

Interesting… I certainly see the value in having an email list. I don’t know how I feel about viewing these people as items to make money off of… anyhow, I see the potential but it still doesn’t mean you’ll always make money (I know you know this). :) Thanks for sharing.

Agreed about building subsciptions. I particularly like e-mail subscriptions as I get the reader e-mail address. That’s like gold.

Ryan , I completely agree with what you are saying. People that don’t utilize the power of having a subscriber a list, are quite frankly “blind”. Having the power to send emails to willing people who are interested in what you have to say is very powerful – and something everyone should be doing.

I absolutely agree! They say that the ‘money is in the list’ but quite frankly it is true! It is also true that you can make money (a million for example) without a list BUT it will be a lot harder.
I think you explained it well. The key is to harness your list and offer them products that can add value.

Subscriber lists are very important if you ever plan to make a lot of money with affiliate marketing. With lists you can draw people in and send them e-mails about products you recommend.

You’d be surprised about how many people buy stuff that you recommend as long as they trust you.

I totally agree. I recently added a list to my sales page (less than a month ago) and have seen my sales increase by nearly 200% since. I am very impressed with the power of a list. I had always heard that “the money is in the list” but never did it. I encourage all that are not taking advantage of list building to go ahead and do it! It works.

I’ve been putting efforts into this, and you can see the results coming in. The RSS subscribers of this blog are around 300, and I’m working hard to cross 1000 by the end of this month. Great post! Building a list is absolutely essential. I’m trying to build a list on my blog right now and it’s definitely a challenge. I think the major key is your content. If you can deliver something to your readers that they want to read, and then take that a step further and deliver something so good that they want to tell their friends to read it, then you’re in good shape!

For a while I was unsure about list building. I was a MLMer with a fairly large downline. Once I started learning about the power of having a list, my income grew. I built trust with those in my downline, so when I started researching and joining other companies, they followed me.
It is extremely necessary to build a list in what ever niche you are in to make more money. Great post!

I just ran across this blog post and I feel really compelled to respond due to the fact that I’ve been building lists for the past 4 years. I hear from my coaching clients all the time that quite a number of affiliate marketers are telling them to not waste anytime building an email list.

In my honest opinion, that is a dumb move. Why?

Well, an email list is an asset that you can control. Just building an email list of targeted subscribers gives you the power to leverage that list anytime you want to because you own it. If I need to make some quick cash, or send traffic to a particular offer, then I can just write a quick email….and shoot it out to my list. It’s just that simple.

But those who are solely depending on Google Adwords and PPC traffic to make them money are just creating money makers, they are not building a sustainable business. If google adwords and all the ppc networks suddenly stopped, what traffic source will you be able to pull from in order to keep your business afloat.

If Google, Yahoo, and MSN filed bankruptcy and had to end their operation, then what will happen with your business then? If your whole entire biz model was based on buying traffic, and not capturing it in the form of email leads, then you may need to make a career change if Google, Yahoo, and MSN suddenly closed shop.

Any business you build should be creating assets that will not make it dependable on other mechanisms. Building an email list is one of the only ways you can guarantee yourself a stable business.

Sorry for the rant and rambling.
