Some (a few too many, perhaps  ) will have noticed the listing on Sitepoint’s Established Websites for sale section that’s a bit familiar… that of this blog.

It’s been a fun year and a bit, but all good things have to come to an end… sometime within the next couple of weeks, this blog will be sold and I will no longer be posting regularly on here (although I will drop by infrequently to share some advice).

The reason for this is stuff offline – being a university student (you never would have guessed, would you? :) ) I have exams coming up, starting on December 13th and carrying through to the 30th, and I’ll have to study for those (I haven’t started yet). After that I’ll be leaving on the 1st of January to go on vacation – to Hong Kong for twenty two days, and then the next term (which actually starts on the 11th of January, so I’ll miss eleven days and need to catch up).

Two months away is a long time, especially online where things are constantly moving – in all honesty I’ve been dropping levels of effort on this blog in for a while now and haven’t promoted it or aimed to maximise its potential – it’s time for someone to take over that can do this and take it to “the next level” (a John Chow / Shoemoney sized superstar).

Can it be done? I don’t see why not, as long as it goes to someone less lazy then me.

I’d like to personally thank anyone who has ever visited the blog, dropped a comment, linked here, sent me an email or just added me on instant messenger for a chat… I appreciate every single one of you doing this and there’s no way this blog will have grown as it has without the backing of you guys. I hope you’ll be as helpful and friendly to the new owner, whoever s/he may be.

Help Me Out

I’d really like to get this sale finished as soon as possible – my time is limited and the faster someone with drive, with initiative takes it over, the faster it can start the explosive growth that should be happening right now.

I’ve you’ve got some time, please spread the word – post about it on your blog, Twitter it, tell people on forums and do whatever you can. It will help me out a great deal.

The buyer will be getting sensational value – at the moment current bid is only $3,500 with BIN of $15,000 – Blog Premiere will be included if the website is BINed. If you are the person that refers the end buyer which purchases the site, I’ll send you 5% of the end sale price through Paypal or 10% if the buyer pays BIN price (that’s $1,500). Think of it as affiliate marketing – if your blog refers the sale, you’ll get a commission. Thanks! :)

Lastly – I hope you guys will give the new owner a chance; I know some of you like the blog because of the posts on it, most by me, but remember that whoever buys this blog will have some kind of experience with internet marketing but be completely new to blogging – I was new to both once and if you guys could be as supportive to him as you were to me, this blog would be all the better for it. I’ll also be popping in once in a while with a post, and you don’t want to miss out on those do you?

Good luck with your online endeavours,

Jason

It’s going to be so sad to see you go, Jason. You’re blog has really been on of the best around the blogosphere.

Will you still be going on MSN and continuing with other projects, or will you completely stop all online activity?

Anyways, good luck to you in your exams, and be sure to have fun on vacation!

I will be on MSN / Yahoo but will likely respond less. Will not be on at all during January though. As for my other projects – partners are taking over some of them, a lot have been sold and others I will just let die (the smaller ones). :)

Yeah, I would definitely get others to help you instead of selling. You seem to have a good thing going here. Maybe ask John Chow or Shoemoney what they would do. Maybe they will give you some tips.
Don’t give it up. I wouldn’t if you truly want to keep it. We the mistake of selling a site a few years ago, which my husband started. we only sold it for like 2500.00 and then the person who took it over tried to say HE was the founder and screwed it up, now they are doing nothing with it.
I”m just saying, if you want to keep it, keep it and have other help you.
    Good Luck

So I read this post the day it was published, but didn’t really know how to respond.

As a reader/member that has been along for most of the ride over the last year I must say that I am very saddened to see Jason sell the site. I have learned a lot from TUK and have met a lot of cool people along the way. Getting to know Jason through this site and IM/email has been a great part of this last year online.

I can’t say that I didn’t see it coming though, as it was apparent that Jason was too busy, or had lost interest in managing this site. Not that the quality of content ever suffered, it just became less frequent. Early on the site had a great small community feel, and Jason had even posted that he didn’t want TUK to grow because he didn’t want to lose that environment. But with the great content he was putting out it was inevitable that TUK would grow beyond the “small group of friends blog” into a large resource site attracting new visitors every day. I guess there are positives and negatives to both scenarios!

I will definitely stick around when the new owner comes on board, but I must say they are going to have some tough shoes to fill. I guess we will see how it goes. Hopefully the buyer will keep up the quality of content and fulfill the reader expectations that Jason had previously created. Good luck to the buyer and come into this sale fully knowing what you are getting yourself into!!

All of the above also applies to Blog Premiere! Jason, you have me on IM, keep me updated on your projects and anything you need help with, or can help me out with. Thanks for the great run!
