Twitter is a subject that splits many down the middle. Some love it, some hate it.

In all honesty I thought (and still kind of do) that Twitter was a waste of time. Yes, people are making with it – some lots of it, but I’ve looked at other marketing channels and found them more effective.

Anyways, one of the deals I struck a little while ago was to work a Twitter account for an offline Dubai based company – and so I’m going to work on that but also try using it myself.

I’m going at this with an open mind; I’ll look back in a month and decide whether it’s good or bad.

One of the benefits of Twitter I guess is that it’s easiest and less time consuming than instant messenger – quick messages between people. You can also communicate with some of the “big guns”, although they may not reply.

Anyways, as I said I’m giving it ago. Feel free to follow me:

I’ve followed everyone that followed me up till this point and will continue to do so.

Now, the purpose of Twitter is networking. So follow me, leave your Twitter profile link in the comments section and I’ll follow you. Feel free to recommend others that you’ve found to your benefit following – they can be in this niche or even out of it but interesting (humourous content, for instance  ).

I’m going to try and see if I can round up anyone in Dubai using Twitter as I want to organise some kind of marketing convention here. We’ll see.

If you have tips for Twitter, feel free to leave them in the comments section too. As I mentioned, I’m pretty new to the service, out of choice but still. Cheers!

I am rather disappointed that after having said that you think that it is a waste of time, you go and propagate twittering. Okay, may be since it allows you to make some money, it is alright for you, but for those who do not need to, it is indeed a waste of time.

I have tried to get into twitter without any avail. I guess if you have a large following of people, you can get a lot visitors to your site. I mean, I see it as a large waste of time. it could help you with your alexa score, but that is abou it.

I was wondering how long until you’d finally take on Twitter, I was searching for your profile under common names like “theuniversitykid”, for example. I’m FTLRalph on there.

I just don’t see the point. 1, I don’t have the time and 2, nobody wants to know that I just ate my lunch too fast and it feels like I have a noodle stuck in my throat. :P

The latest flash in the pan, Twitter will soon follow the other social bookmarking style sites in to oblivion as spamming increases. I am already seeing a near exponential increase in blatant promotional activity. This sort of activity will soon swamp genuine traffic and make the whole concept futile. Grab it while it’s hot kiddies, as it’ll soon go cold.

Welcome to the fam :) . Twitter is a service where you either love it or hate it. I fluctuate wildly between the two, having loved it when I first started and enjoyed the opportunities to meet people. However, now it just seems like a bore to try and get in contact with people on it.

    Hi Jason,

I’ve been using Twitter for a couple of months as a young entrepreneur who is trying to start an Internet business. Out of 800 followers I’ve met about 10 new people who are excited and want to help me with my business. Yes, Twitter can be a huge waste of time but I’m convinced there is no easier way to meet people from around the world who share your interests and passions. I’m gonna keep Twittering!

By the way, I’m following you (@JuniorBiz)

I am asking myself: What is it all about? I do not even want to talk to the so-called “big-guns” – will they ever respond if I am not one of them? No, they will not ;-) Why should they…
