I’ve posted enough rubbish content in the last four or five days so time for something semi useful.
Every day I get people asking on what they can do to improve their blogs – I then get a link to a site with a killer header, great colour scheme and layout… and the last post being written on October 27th, 2007. Now, updating only once a week is fine, if not ideal – updating once every few months and still expecting hundreds of unique visitors a day is simply unrealistic.
Time for repetition, because we all know that’s the best way of getting your point across – update regularly at set intervals for your blog to maximise its success. This blog, for example is updated every day – if I went a week without a post, it’s likely my readers would think I’d died or something (or just was too lazy to get out of bed
). In fact, not a week even – I didn’t update this blog one day when my internet died and I woke up with around thirty five instant messages telling me that TUK was dying, aliens were invading the Earth and whatnot. Unless you give your readers prior notice that you won’t be updating (like when I go to India, that’s what I’ll do for example) you should really maintain a consistent pattern – if you can’t be bothered to update your blog, why should your readers be bothered to read it?
If there’s the off chance you suddenly won’t be able to update your blog that day – due to common events like your internet dying, family coming over and spend three hours talking about what you’re doing at school or your house being invaded by a bunch of rampaging hippos… well, post as soon as possible, even if it’s a short one – little news is better than none. If you’ll be away for an extended period of time, don’t let your blog die – get in some guest posters with the promise that you’ll reciprocate if needed (or just for them getting exposure if your blog is semi-large); you probably have a couple bloggers you know that will be willing to help out, and even if you don’t – you can easily find someone who can throw you a few 300 – 500 word articles for an affordable rate on places like Digital Point.
A lot of bloggers do this, but it’s something I’d warn against – do not use plr content that’s been displayed thousands of times and flogged on eBay for $0.01 a piece – first off, rewriting it will take enough time that you could just throw together a quick post instead, and not rewriting it will see you (eventually) penalised in the search engines for duplicate content. Also, most plr content is boring – why have something boring when you can offer your readers quality, unique content? Remember, your visitors read your blog to find out what you’re thinking about, or in the case of guest posts, what those you feel are good bloggers think about certain topics – by using plr content, you’re not just taking away from your blog as a place to visit, but also from your readers daily dose of you-provided content.
Let’s hope that post was useful enough
I found out that the autoresponder finally sent out the second message of my series – a good three weeks after it was supposed to go out. Not that it’s sent the message to the whole list – it’s been delivered to a massive six people. Six! I’m looking at getting a credit card of my own, or at least an extra one for my parents – that will help a lot, lot more with various online business. As for online business, I’ve received a few writing jobs – mainly from people who liked the quality of my previous eBooks, and would like one of their own – I’m nearly finished with the first one on affiliate marketing for a client and received an order to write up a sales page for an eBook on getting into Harvard. Interesting stuff! I’ll be working on marketing my copywriting skills – something I haven’t really done, and using words like ‘cos’ and ‘arse’ on TUK can’t help much
Time for the football – deja vu, Arsenal v Newcastle again. More later!

Updating daily is important, but when not much happens in the domaining industry worth mentioning it’s hard. I’m hoping to expand to a couple other topics to solve this problem. Thankfully for the last 3-4 months there’s always been something to talk about

Hey you can update your blog even if you are travelling in India.
