Use Name.com For Cheap Domain Names
Posted by Jason in GeneralFirst off – I’m going to be relaxing in the middle of the month, so need some guest posters. My birthday is coming up on August 17th, and in true TUK style I’ll be taking a break from online stuff. The contest where you can win a Nintendo Wii ends on the 15th, but for all other days from the 10th – 20th I’ll take some guest posts if you guys are up for them.
Guest posts on here can send you some traffic (a study done a while ago showed that TUK sent over 200 visitors for a paid review, and each post tends to get an average of 20 comments) and at the very least you get decently powered links / exposure. As for topics… internet marketing, make money online, entrepreneurship, blogging tips topics would be great… specifically the former three.
This is not a review of any sorts, but a post that should help you guys.
I’ve written up a few things that will make you guys money, but how about posts that will save you money? Money saved is as good as money earned, especially as you can invest it in other things.
I only found out about this recently thanks to a friend, so it’s likely at least a few of you haven’t heard about it.
If you’re looking for a cheap, reliable place to buy domain names, Name.com is the place to go.
Now personally… I buy around 5-10 domains per week, some to develop, some just to keep. The majority of these are .COMs.
Previously, I used to pay $7.15 using the coupon code OYH3 at GoDaddy or $9.29 (using no coupon code) at Namecheap… the Namecheap registration comes with private WHOIS thrown in.
Although for my public sites I couldn’t care less about privacy, for my niche websites I prefer being able to not be found out through a simple WHOIS search.
My savings increased tremendously when I found Name.com though… .COM domains not just cost only $6.00, they also come with FREE private WHOIS!
For me, that’s a savings of minimum $15, maximum around $30+ per week. At the minimum amount, that’s $60 monthly… I could rent another two virtual private servers monthly with that, or get a cheap dedicated one. There’s a whole lot of better things you could do with that monthly.
The service is legit and they’re not going to scam you… from what I’ve heard, you can also pay with unverified Paypal accounts which should help some of you that are underage and can’t get them verified.
Now you really have no excuse not trying out the whole site flipping thing… with a domain costing $6, and your first month of hosting costing $0.01 if you use the coupon code wordpress or jury at Hostgator, you have nothing to lose but time. There are plenty of posts on here that should get you started, just browse through the last few weeks.
Here’s a tip… add a product to your website, and it’s value will skyrocket.
For example, a three page niche website with three 500 word articles (total 1,500) may only sell for $30 – $50… on the other hand, a one page 500 word sales page selling a product that’s 1,000 words long can easily go for $1-200+, even more with a little revenue.
Of course, if you already have the articles, create the product and optimize the articles for SEO… buyers love websites with multiple income streams, and here you can offer them the full package (a website that earns with Adsense, affiliates and its own product sales). You can generally find writers on the various webmaster forums for $0.01/word… and this means a full fledged 4,000 word eBook will cost you $40 – $50… this can be sold for $500 or more with the right graphics, a decent sales page.
All you need is $6.01 to start out. Is that really so difficult to achieve?
A lot of you have asked how I started making money… I started writing articles at shitty rates (like… $0.004/word) off job websites. Later on, I moved to things like forum posting, and as I got more experienced I started website flipping.
You can generally make $6 (if you really don’t want to use your own money) by doing 50 paid posts on forums. Just hit up any of the webmaster forums, show your writing capabilities. It won’t take you long.
As always… if you have any questions, just let me know. Good luck.

Jason,
Have you reached gazillionaire status yet? If not, you should any minute now. In the past few days I’ve followed your instructions on several niche ideas, the most recent was the current news annihilator.
You give EXCELLENT information. Thanks.

Name.com is perfect. I am and I always have bought my domains there. And the private whois is perfect, although I have learnt to appreciate it just a while ago.
I wonder if my blog is too new for a quest post. Or if the topic is something you don’t accept. Please tell me what you think.

Rich – He’s too lazy to reach that status
But I used to go through Google to buy my domains because it was a flat rate of $10, it comes with the WHOIS privacy, they set up all the e-mails for you, they host it (if you want) for you, etc.
But I think I’ll be checking out that name.com thing!

I laughed at “gazillionaire status”. Because it is true. TUK here know’s all the ins and outs of making money online. Great stuff.

I have always used Name.com for purchasing .com domains. They’re the cheapest. The added domain privacy option is useful too.
By the way, I have planned a post related to this so count one guest post for your blog.

Oh, just a quick update, name.com may be good but a lot of the domains I search for say its taken, yet, when I go to godaddy.com it says it’s available.
So, I’m not sure how accurate or updated their system is… but for the price that includes the WHOIS privacy, it’s definitely worth it.

thanx you already saved my 25$.also anyway where can i find cheap .info’s.
less than 3$.thanx
I have heard of name.com before but never checked into them. I also get my domains from Godaddy at the $7.15 coupon rate. I think my future domains will come from them. That’s an awesome price and the free private whois you just can’t beat.

What I do to check availability before buying it to use pcnames.com – It is live and they do not collect any day and no one tries to beat you to it. Just start typing in the name box and it tells you what is available as you type for all the standard TLDs.
It isn’t always up to the minute and sometimes you get surprised and find out it is not available when you go to register it. Nut I like it for alternate ideas as you are scheming.
Speaking of which i just now bought http://sosso.com and am going to set it up as a social circle club, er if you know what I mean
Thanks TUK, I used NAME and Hostgator just like you said.
Check it out tommorow.

Replace “day” with “info” and “Nut” with “But” in the last comment.

Hmmm. How do I get the $.01 for the first month on Hostgator? The only discount I see is -20% with coupon BEACH.
Try jury or iceishot. Those used to work in the past at least. And if those don’t work. Just Google for it. =P

This is a great way, I am about to buy like 5 domain names in a few days, 2 or 3 to keep and the rest to flip. Thanks for the heads up on Name.com!

Thanks for the information Jason, just registered a domain using them and all went great.
Great post Jason
, I’ve been using Name.com for the past two months and they beat GD and NameCheap hands down.
Nathaniel – If you feel that the names are valuable, I’d suggest registering them instantly, if they are the type that can be easily replaced, then don’t bother
Also, if you ever do need to check the status of a domain, make sure you use Moniker’s bulk scan tool (http://www.moniker.com/domains/batch_reg.jsp) as they are the only registrar (AFAIK) which use secure connections and don’t indulge in domain sniffing.
Great information once again. Saving money is definitely important, too.

This post is awesome. But how do you sell websites? Like do you advertise through forums or is there a website where you can easily sell the websites?
I have a website which I set up but never use which I would love to sell

@ Erica, Right on indeed. How does an online party sound?
I’ve used Name.Com for a while now, I have about 15 domains registered with them, and overall I’m quite happy about the service they offer. They’re cheap, have free private whois etc. They’ve even called a couple of times to ask if they can be of any service etc.
They’re not really GREAT at replying to emails, though, I’d say that’s the only catch (something they share with some of the competition). However, things have run pretty smoothly lately, so that’s not an issue for me at this point.
Having run a few different businesses for a few years, I’ve certainly learned to not waste money, or pay more when there is no discernible benefit to doing so. Name.com offers me just as much as other, more expensive places, and so I’ll probably stick with them for a good while longer.
Great post. Name.com is definitely a site to bookmark…

@Harald Johnsen – Namecheap and GoDaddy support take some time too. I remember marking something as critical and not getting a response for a good 24 hours. The problem just worsened in that time.

I’m pretty mad that I didn’t know about this before hand. I nearly payed all of that extra money to make my godaddy names private. I’d still have to transfer each domain to name.com, and I don’t really want to do that. Sigh. Oh well.
Thanks for the awesome info!
Nice tip, I will definitely be checking them out!
Looks like they don’t have an affiliate program?
Happy birthday!! May it bring you memories for a lifetime.

Just one question, isn’t it risky for name.com to accept unverified paypal?

It’s risky for anyone, really. It just depends on if the person / service your sending money to will accept it.

Hi Jason,
I found name.com from your site and purchased about 3 domains there because it’s cheap. Now, seems like the domain registration increases and I’m wondering if you know any domain registrant which is basically cheap.
Thanks! keep up the good work!
