A few of you might have noticed the RSS count jump from 700 odd to around 980 or so… some questions have been raised through instant messsenger and email.

Although I’d love to claim I’ve discovered some secret hack that gets me hundreds of subscribers within seconds, the truth is far more boring. :)

When I originally got Aweber, I made one of the mistakes that most people make – targeting the internet marketing niche. Now, the greatest deal of money is in other niches – so I learned as I experimented more and more, and although I have around seven messages setup as an autoresponder series should people join my list (here’s the link)… I haven’t really updated it in ages.

Rather than let the list die – a large portion of it is built through methods like forum marketing and Youtube, so people that don’t know about the blog yet – I decided to combine it with my blog through Aweber’s Blog Broadcast feature, as both talk about the same topics. Ergo the large boost. If you’re on the newsletter, you’ll get a thrice monthly email with all new content from the blog.

This has been done by bloggers such as John Chow, Yaro Starak, Gyutae at Winning The Web, John Cow and dozens of others… so for all accusing me of gaming numbers etc, meh. Personally, I can’t wait till I pass 1,000 subscribers as that is what defines a blog moving from the third tier into the second tier. :)

Anyways, just wanted to clarify. As for today’s post – I’m dead tired, as I’ve been out the whole of today… so sorry, nothing useful for you guys today. Just wanted to welcome newsletter subscribers to the blog, and one hopes you guys will stick around :)

Over the next few days, I’ll talk about how I got 200+ subscribers to join within a week or so (through the password protected post that went viral) and maybe another question and answer session if you guys are interested. Let me know, comments section of this post. ;)

If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!

You better talk about how you got that many subscribers soon! I need to know! And btw your first link that says “here’s the link” is not working.
Lastly, when are you going to redraw the wii?

I am all in for the Q&A. I would never accuse you of being evil enough to trick out the rss count. I knew there had to be a reasonable explanation.

So to all you haters… like the man said… beh! lol

@ nathaniel, the wii winner claimed it – actually wasn’t his fault for the delay as he was subscribed via email and claimed it within 13 hours of receiving the email… of course, feedburner cocked up and sent the email a day late.

as for the link thingy, i read my posts once over after i write em, thought about not bothering with it but knew someone would point it out, so changed it

What is the 4th tier? Under 100? And the first over what?

Yeah, too bad the guy did claim the wii. But I know feedburner has been shitting all over the fence lately. It may be because google took over?

    Jason,
Is that the only way you get subscribers? How did you get so many? Did you pay to send traffic there?
I am looking to start building up my list at the moment (using a competition on my site running tomorrow…sponsored by The Universtiy Kid)…any tips on building this list?

Jason is a master with link-baiting. Such as the passworded post. You had to post on your blog about his site or you had to post 5 links on dofollow blogs or get 3 people to signup. No matter which you did… you were sure to generate traffic and rss subscribers from it.

I am fixing to give away an ipod touch in a link-bait contest. It will be an easy way to get subscribers and get linked on other sites.

Well that would explain the unexpected email that I got from you yesterday that was a short run down (excerpts) of the recent posts on TUK! At the time I thought that you had maybe implemented a digests type plugin that sent out the last ten posts! Great to hear an explanation for that email, as well as the subscriber increase.

Didn’t you say you weren’t going to do another Q and A session for at least a year!?! If you are down for the amount of work that comes with it then I think it would again be a great post for us visitors.

@Trentorsellpornmakemoney – I am not comment stuffing on purpose.
The first comment was just a comment.
The second comment I noted he got the link in.
When I was writing my third comment on the 4th tier his comment was not there yet.
When I published my third comment and the page refreshed I saw his comment, and so I wish I had put it in the other comment, but I wanted to say something about the wii and feedburner.
Happy? And uh this comment is to explain my other comments to you. :)

I think all newsletter subscribers rule! These are the real faithful people to you so you need to make sure that there are always happy. Once you’ve make these people angry they will probably never say very many good things to other people about you. They’re more faithful in your RSS subscribers. Keep them happy man!
