One of the biggest problems for people starting out online is the startup capital… sometimes getting it is easy, but being able to use it is a whole other matter.
For example, teenagers (those of a similar age to me or slightly younger) can often find that their parents are unwilling to setup Paypal accounts and the like. My parents were wary about doing so, despite the fact that Paypal is used by millions worldwide – I had to argue for months to eventually convince them to sign me up for a Paypal account. Also, those in countries where the likes of Paypal are not accepted (for example, the United Arab Emirates used to be one of those), paying for things can be almost impossible.
Anyways, I’m thinking of buying another reseller account at Hostgator… mainly to offer extended hosting to buyers after my site flips (either free or paid). However, this will likely not be used up much, so I’m thinking of offering all of you that want some free professional hosting, for a blog or two.
Something like 2-3 domains allowed, maybe 5GB bandwidth monthly, a couple GB space. Nothing too big, but enough for smallish blogs / sites you flip… of course, if your sites grow you should get ‘proper’ hosting.
I’m thinking of doing this because I’d like to help some of you guys out… I wanted to do this with Hostican (when I got my dedi server), but had problems because their server was ultimately a bit shit.
However, I need to know if a few of you would be interested… all I’ll be doing is supplying hosting, for blogs only… would you be interested in free blog hosting? Let me know guys, cheers
Today’s post is a bit short, but I want answers rather than confusing you guys too much. So what do you think?

This day and age if you cant afford hosting because your cheap then you shouldn’t be online.
I know theres a lot of people out there saying they cant afford hosting which you can get for practically nothing these days.
Think about it, when you can get hosting for $30-50 / yr with lots of space and bandwidth there is notreason you can’t.
I think the average people spend more on coffee at Starbucks or Tim Hortons per year than they would buying hosting in my opinion

I agree. And if the “age” factor is a problem… I think anyone that wants to build an online business but is too young to get a credit card or whatever should approach this like a real business!!! Talk to your parents (bank) and present them with your business strategy. Explain to them the benefits, both financial and social, that will come from this opportunity. I would be surprised to see parents saying no to them. Now, if they still can’t get it done after a year or two, then the business failed and “oh well”. You could always go to your parents with this pitch… If you don’t pay for my domain and hosting I will become a drug addict!! CHA CHING!!

I don’t need hosting but that’s a cool offer man
Hey, I’m curious about something. Is the PayPal account a parent has to “sign for” still in “the kid’s name”? And, it uses the parent’s credit card, or the kid’s bank account, or your choice? I’ve used PayPal for like 7 or 8 years now, but don’t know anything about that (never needed to).
Cheers!

Jason,
That’s brilliant. What a great way to build a list of loyal followers. There will be some idiots that will try to scam the system but you should easily be able to weed them out.

If you are serious about your online business you should not be hosting your site with a free hosting service.

I think that is a fantastic offer for an up and coming teenager with limited funds or a non web savy parent that won’t set up a few accounts for their kids because they are afraid of giving out credit card numbers. I know when my son was 13 he was running re-seller hosting, gaming servers and websites.(all in my name of course) I was glad when he turned 18 last year so he is able to establish himself as an individual with his own accounts and tax deductions as a legitimate business. If I wasn’t able to provide him with a little help setting up PayPal or Hosting he would still be working at a movie theatre, and I would be supporting him. By the way, he is paying his own way through college. Bravo Jason!

Free hosting will definitely benefits bloggers and you too.
I remembered when my mum was so angry at me for setting up a PayPal account. At that time, I cannot withdraw money because I am from Malaysia. I have to spend it to buy Sony PSP, action figures from eBay etc.
Funny memories.

When I got started online, I lacked the capital to pay for hosting. I moved to a great host that is free, and allows for unlimited domains. The goal is to move to a paid host, or upgrade my service at the current one once I start to generate a little more money from my websites.

I actually made an account for ebay when I was 9 lol. A few years later I made another one and I don’t think I asked to create them, I just went ahead. My parents let me verify with their CC so all was good. As for the free hosting, I found it pretty lame when I used it. I changed it with the first 3 days of getting it. Even if you pay $5 more, paid hosting is much better then a free host that could literally be shutdown any minute due to the lack of income.
